You want one, don't you.
Obviously, but only for the purpose of blowing it up.

The NSA have probably intercepted that message.

That's funny because it's probably true.

I have a friend who is slightly paranoid and I'll occasionally send him text messages like "Obama bomb terrorist mecca airport Nebraska anthrax".

What about other features?
  • Do the windsheild wipers turn on automatically? What about the lighting (headlights and internal)?
  • How is the interface to your phone? Can you play music? Phone calls?
  • Auto dimming rear view?
  • Electronic seats? Heated seats?
Sorry, for what seems petty, but I own a car that has all of this now, and I am very used to it.
One of the things you'll notice when stepping into the volt is that most of the expense has gone into the driving system. The amount of sensors, safety mechanisms and driving assist options is unlike I have ever seen. They want you driving as efficiently as possible to get the most out of the electric charge, which is their primary selling point. The experience cannot be fully appreciated until you sit behind the wheel and drive one.

Here are a few surprises:

The Good
  • Voice activated everything
  • Bluetooth connectivity with your phone to make calls, play spotify ,pandora or your music library.
  • Weather Apps
  • And insane amount of driving options and assists to keep you driving efficiently. (Keep that green ball in the center!)
  • On Star Navigation. For $5 your car gets its own phone number and 60 minutes in case you need to make a call via satellite if there is no cell signal.
  • Heated Seats. Auto dimming rearview auto lighting.
  • Front camera for driving distance and assist. Rear camera for back-up assist. Two side cameras for parking and lane-switching assist.
The Puzzling (as in, this car is $50k but somehow misses these features)
  • Manual seats (!)
  • No Sunroof option (!!)
  • Wipers are manual (meh)
  • No option for rooftop solar cells (Prius has this)
  • Lack of ball washer

If you ever suddenly stop posting here, we'll know why now.

"Lack of ball washer"

Not a problem if you shower regularly though?

Ironically, any gadget that Acu is listing drains the batteries whiiiiiiich...

...are the only source of power in an electric car.

Think about this for a minute. A petrol powered car will recycle engine heat to get the temperature up in the cabin in the winter. If you live in a cold area, be prepared to see your electric car's range decrease substantially when the temperature drops... as your batteries are being used to heat your ass instead of taking you somewhere. Isn't that a valid concern?

You are correct, but nearly every device was designed specifically for lower power consumption. When settings are set to auto, climate, lighting, seat temperature, nav system and audio are monitored for battery consumption. I'm certain battery life will vary depending on temperature and driving conditions, but the car pretty much guides you every step of the way to be efficient.

Ignoring the fact that your entire post is based on an incorrect assumption (The Volt is not an Electric-only car, it is a hybrid), it is still incorrect. The Volt has an electric motor and an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE).

Simply put, when the cabin demands heat, the first stage of heat is supplied by an electric heater. If that is not enough, then the ICE turns on. When the ICE is running, it supplies heat just like your own car.

The thermal system of the Chevy Volt is an amazing feat of engineering. It operates in many different modes (think: cold ambiance, electric only vs hot ambiance, electric only, then consider the ICE modes). The system is actually bi-directional, the motors and batteries are actually heated OR cooled depending on the conditions.

Here is a phenomenal link explaining the four cooling loops.

According to Wikipedia, Dragonmike is correct.

Yea, he thought that was funny for a few posts. I read it, it was like:

"Anything Acupuncture says is right." (not sure why he quoted Dragonmike).

...because I was right about 100% electrical vehicles (No matter I didn't know the Volt was a hybrid, but anyway I didn't base my post on the Volt either).

I'm sure it's got a little 1.6 or 1.4 liter petrol engine in too.
