Nope because you just get a PAYG SIM for data only.

Most tablets are PAYG and you also get much better battery life using 3G on a tablet and don't murder your phone's battery tethering.
So whats stopping you doing this with your phone if you really need data access on your tablet? doesn't take long to swap sim cards.

Travel charger? lol

Hmmm 9 hour battery with the screen on the whole time or 24 hour battery with hotspot enabled in tablet, vs 4 hours tethering from phone. You can do the math.

Want to swap the SIM? Power down phone, power down tablet, remove back from phone, remove Sim, open Sim tray in tablet, power on tablet.

You are obviously alright with all the compromise which is totally fine but realize people have differing priorities.

Just buy an MHL cable and charge your phone from your tablet whilst tethering.

I think I'd be ready to kill myself after about two hours. It's a fine compromise if you don't really use your phone but utterly intolerable for anyone else.

I tried calling you but you didn't pick up, what the hell?
Oh sorry I was just streaming a movie.

Considering that I am writing this from my tegra3 based android tablet, I can assure you, I know what the nexus is and isn't capable of. With that said, it seriously lacks in some departments compared to other android tablets, and price aside, it really isn't groundbreaking at all... It is a solid little tablet at an awesome price though.
Kind of off topic, but what tablet are you running, and do you like it? I really liked the Asus Transformer that you linked to a few posts up when I checked it out in store the other day... Just wish it had JB on it right now.

I have a TF300, it's the lower end 10" Asus tablet. 1280x800 resolution and the Tegra 3 in it running at only 1.3 ghz (same as the Nexus 7 IIRC). I am loving it so far!

I really wish that the mobile dock/keyboard came with it. If I go for the TF700, we're talking $650 or more after tax if I get the dock. I'm not sure if I would use it or not, but extra battery life, and being able to type a bit more like a computer would be nice. Of course, my laptop does need replacing...

Yeah, I got the version with the dock - make sure that you decide in advance whether you'll want it or not - it costs an arm and a leg if you don't buy it bundled...

Do you find yourself using the dock often? Is it liable to tip over, or is it pretty stable? I'm a bit worried that if I were to tilt the screen back to use it kind of like a laptop that it would be unstable.

Seems pretty stable - as for using it a lot: not really. I expect to use it more when I go abroad though, first trip with it coming up in a week
