The surcharge is not for CO2 emissions, but for driving a diesel. I think it's a 4% addition to the benefit in kind tax. You should be paying at least 15% on a 320d by now - 2012-2013 tax year. Next year it will be 16%. An Audi says the decision maker has arrived |

The diesel surcharge is 3%. No, it says a ****** has arrived, and they're usually wearing an entire tub of hair gel. Especially true of white Audis I find. Base model A3/A4 drivers tend to be in their 20's and in sales so can be tossers. To assume everyone that drives an Audi is a ******* says a lot of bad things about you. --- Post Update --- ... I drive a VW. ![]() |

Yes, that is the typical reaction of someone who can't afford an Audi. Base model A3/A4 drivers tend to be in their 20's and in sales so can be tossers. To assume everyone that drives an Audi is a ******* says a lot of bad things about you. Exactly... like the BWM 3 series - 316 and 318s of the late 90s were almost as common as a Ford Escort. You have to admit though, for young blokes, driving an Audi A4 or S3, is akin to walking down the street with your c0ck hanging out. |

Just to be clear - I drive a 520d M Sport Have you got the latest model 5-series? I could get one but there are a couple of things that concern me... 1) If I get the 520d M-sport auto (I want an auto) then I'll have to forgo electric seats and tinted glass to keep in budget. 2) I'm not sure if I want to bump up to a car that big. I don't really need it and it will just be a pain to park more of the time. --- Post Update --- Now now, that's what a ****** would say. Audis aren't really that expensive anyway. You have to admit though, for young blokes, driving an Audi A4 or S3, is akin to walking down the street with your c0ck hanging out. |

As an aside - what % of your gross income do you think is reasonable to spend on a car? Hypothetically,I'd allow up to 20% in my current circumstances. However, if I didn't get a company car I'd be rolling around in a 25 year old Fiat. My car is a perk, not part of my basic package, so £160 to have a roughly £40,000 car on the drive and no servicing / insurance costs is a bit of a non-brainer. |

There is a clear breakdown of communication here. I thought you'd take my comments in good humour. Have you got the latest model 5-series? I could get one but there are a couple of things that concern me... I'd much rather have the Sport Auto box than the electric seats. Tinted glass is helpful with kids, although I don't think it actually makes the sun that much dimmer. I'd probably spec built-in blinds next time. I decided against the Auto, as good as it is, and went for Xenons and Business speaker system instead (the standard lights are crap, so I'm told). I've never had an Auto, so don't miss it or wish I'd specced it. You do get used to the size. Parking can be a pain in some spaces, expecially shorter ones, but sensors are standard front and back. It doesn't feel that heavy to drive either - it's actually feels pretty light footed. I was planning on a new 3 series, but they weren't out yet and I was looking to save on tax and fuel costs as soon as possible. Yes, it's big, probably bigger than I need, and I'd probably get a 3 next time, but it is a beautiful car and way more comfortable than a 3 to sit in and drive. |
