I'm not sure it's worth splashing out on a new passport (considering how expensive they are) when I've got no immediate plans to use one for its intended use. I never even used the one I have (apart from once as security at the Tate); I bought it for trip abroad with a mate that fell through.

As for the Olympics tickets, I'll just go with the P@H option if I manage to get some, and it seems an expired passport is valid for such matters anyway.
A provisional license is 20 quid and you'll be amazed how often it will be useful.

Actually, that might not be right anymore haha. It was many years ago though.

Didn't you just say one is no good for ID if one is over 30?

I think he is saying that you're the exception to that.

Bungle, I love you.

I'd say it's just anecdotal. Can't find anything relevant with a few quick searches on Google. Or that it's just a few bouncers disallowing it - if you're over 30 and getting ID'd they're probably more sceptical of it being fake?

DM, you pretend to be a psychologist, maybe you can help.

Has anyone considered culture shock?

Can one safely go from almost 40 years in their mother's basement to an international sporting event?
Well William, it really depends on the person wanting to take the literal and metaphorical approach to moving their life upwards.

If you can't read then yes, I did. For everyone else it was obvious I said that I had heard it and put a question mark at the end to show I was looking for an answer.

What's the point of recommending me do something when you've "heard" it isn't possible? Logic failure.

Because it more than likely isn't true, which is why I made it a question. Get help for your tunnel vision? Bunglefail!

That isn't usually the case in most Olympics. I've been hearing reports about London being surprisingly empty. I wonder why turn out to London Olympics has been so low?
80,000 people in the Stadium for a morning athletics event. I'd say the London Olympics have been pretty successful.

How are you falling over on this one?

Dropping in an anecdotal fact should in no way influence your decision. Get off your arse and look it up if you are interested in getting one.

Just because some bloke down the pub has told me something doesn't mean it is true.

I'm really sorry, I should have put "Presuming that you can indeed use one for ID after hibernating in your mothers attic for 45 years, I recommend getting a provisional license", but I thought even you could connect the ****ing dots!

You're the one who's falling over. You made a gaff and now you're trying to worm your way out if it.

I just looked and a provisional licence is £50, which will need to have the picture renewed in 10 years. They also fit in your wallet so are more portable than passports.

I know there's no legal requirement for ID in the UK but I don't know what I'd do on occasions where I needed something if I didn't have a passport and/or driving licence when I did need them e.g. opening bank accounts or changing employer.

Anyway, looks like you'll be fine to get the tickets (assuming you get some) but it was just a thought.

What gaff? I made a comment about something I had heard and was hoping someone would point out how it was wrong.

I don't think it's true, so why wouldn't I recommend it to you?

Will someone please save Bungle from himself?

I'd put money on Bungle's salary being paid into his mother's account.

No way. This is too funny.

Hibernating in the attic? I seriously laughed out loud.

I keep trying for tickets, but I keep being unsuccesful. They said on the news that about 2 million people (I can't recall if that's exactly what they said but it was a lot) are going on the website trying to get tickets. I think my chances of getting any now are virtually nil. Oh well, at least I tried. I would probably have stood more chance earlier in the week, before the hoards cottoned on to the fact that there were more tickets going.

For the love of all that is holy.

Have you really never had an arbitrary conversation before??

This thread is better than the actual ####ing Olympics.

My money is on DM for the Gold. Possibly Bungle, but he has faded slightly over the last 500m.

Will P may be in with a shout for a medal, but he's still got work to do to get on the podium.

Trying to get Olympics tickets is like entering an Olympic event in itself. I tried about 7 or 8 events tonight when the tickets became available and nothing! I did have a ticket for Saturday night's athletics for a while (which would have been a right coup); it said I had it and it asked for my payment details, then my card was declined for no apparent reason and I lost it!
