Effing flies or whatever

Keep getting in my drink http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/mad1.gif took a swig and heaved after I felt a texture of a small ball.

They're really small flies and it's not at all like I keep my place dirty.

I've resorted to swigging from the bottle but is irritating. ****ers. What can I do about them without shutting the window http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/cry1.gif

Im not a pest expert but have you bathed in the last month ?

I kid, those look like fruit flies, there must be a apple tree or some kind of source of sweets that they are coming from. I know my state currently is under a waste management strike so there is tons of garbage everywhere, dont know what else to tell you. I know vinegar is great from warding off crap like this but then again dealing with the smell might be as worse as the flies.

Flies don't materialize out of thin air. Perhaps you should invest in window screens and take out the garbage more often.

I don't keep any food lying around. Like I said, place is clean. Rubbish goes out into big containers outside my flat in the morning as I leave. They've got to be coming in from the window, but the UK is too poor to have air con in 99% of places, so I either sit with a wet crack or no flies http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/sad1.gif

I know dishes piled up in the sink can attract these little bastards, have you done the dishes recently ?

You didn't leave a log in the bowl did you?

Acalsenunse 08-02-2012 03:05 AM

I keep a couple of these on the windows.

Never have a problem with flies or any other flying bug.

I am confused... Do you put those on the inside of the window to trap bugs that are already in the house?

Yeah. The light from outside attracts any flying bugs to the windows, and when they land on the strips, they stick. I've had them on my windows for several months, and a couple of the strips have caught a few fly's here and there, but the benefit is I never see any fly's buzzing around my place.

Quiniacab 08-02-2012 03:33 AM

Clean your teeth.

they are being attracted by the shitey smell emanating from your lips that you transfer to the glass, and a thin film that floats on the suface.

hehe

I hate those fruit flies, you can keep things as clean as you like but they will come even if you have some grapes out, or you spit your peach/plum/nectarine, or finish an apple, any fruit waste they will come.

These aren't the same flies that are attracted to stink and meat.

Thing is, I don't have many at all. They seem to like pear cider, though! Flies don't normally bother me, since it's only 1 or 2 around in the summer in my place. I could get a UV zapper if I had a major problem (and clean the place better, I guess). The only dishes I got are from within 1 hour from dinner. The problem is, the few flies seem to ninja my cider and I ain't touching it after flies been on it http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/unsure1.gif

Try moving your fridge and mopping under it. Also, clean out the areas where you store potatoes and onions, make sure you don't have a rotten veggie where these guys are breeding. If you have kids, you may have to turn the place upside down to find the source.

We've had one absolute beast of a fly buzzing around in our office for the last three days now. Its actually got so annoying I'm considering offering a performance related bonus to whichever of my team-members finally manages to splat it http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/devil1.gif

Oh, and on a related note - we've been having a bit of a mouse problem in our office of late. Came in this morning to find two of them stuck fast on the sticky mousetrap pad behind our fridge. Both still alive. My team (all women) looked on in horror as I recovered the trap, put the mice out of their misery and disposed of them outside. I now have a reputation as a cold-blooded mouse murderer....

Chris,

I bet if you asked those pests in Dutch, they would comply right away. Why don't you do that? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/tongue1.gif

Check your scotch brite pad and soap bottle. I went nuts one day when I saw them on and off but couldn't figure out where they were coming from. Scoured everything, bleached all counter tops / etc. Way beyond a normal cleaning.

Turns out the freaks were living in the bottom of the soap bottle since it had a air freshener on bottom to make it smell better. Some water got in there and thanks to the chemicals in it, it made a great breeding ground. These guys moved in and started breeding within 24 hours it went from 2-3 to WTF levels. When I finally found the source I threw the bottle out and they all died off pretty quick.
