Depends, what car do you have already?
But also, a friend of mine has an older gen. Colt... With a 4G63 from an EVO3. That thing is blisteringly fast!

I got a 4x4 for a project car. I guess that makes more sense for me than you though.

This.

White Spaces.

Why the LXi instead of the GTI ?

Are you going to bin most of the mechanicals from that LXi ?

Just don't crash it and you'll likely stay alive.

No, much more sense to sell your E46 (it is an E46 right?) and just buy a real E46 M3, resale value will be far better.

There have been a few of those '46's with the M5/6 V10 dropped into them - might be a bit too much work if you're not experienced, though.
What about the V8?
Oh, is that the BMW model that had a problem with tearing welds in the rear end mountings - if so, don't forget to do the re-inforcing.

Yes it is, although most have gotten a strengthened rear subframe (actually from an M3) mounted for free on the factory recall. And IIRC they still offer the conversion for free, as long as the car retains the original suspension setup.
All E46's after the 2001 facelift (OHP's looks like a pre-facelift) come with a new strengthened rear subframe, which unfortunately isn't identical to the M3's.

BritneySpearsFun@@@ 07-27-2012 05:24 PM

Way too much work for me. I'd just buy an M3.

WhileKelf 07-27-2012 06:05 PM

You're married, presumably going to have kids soon...do you really want to spend hundreds of hours working on a car that you could be driving in that time? Buy the M3 and pot a smile on your face.

Are you saying M3 drivers are drug dealers? An E46 M3 is a twats car though unfortunately.

fedelwet 07-27-2012 09:23 PM

Ahh c'mon guys, we all know that all the douchbags and twats now drive Audi's.
But I agree, it's just too much work, and the M3 would still be the better handling car, due to the stiffer chassis compared to the 4 dorr.

dodsCooggipsehome 07-27-2012 09:56 PM

The 2 door Vs 4 door saloon stiffness thing is kinda strange - turns out that many 4 door vehicles are stiffer because of all the additional box structures around the door frames compared to the large single door opening and the large unbraced panelling behind the door and in front of the 'C' pillar.
2 door is still cooler, though http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/biggrin1.gif

elossenen 07-27-2012 10:05 PM

Don't listen OHP, 4 doors are better. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/devil1.gif
