Movie Synopsis! - Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me. And sure enough, ex-military investigator Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) knows the killer is a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right–and soon the slam-dunk case explodes. Christopher McQuarrie (director The Way of the Gun and writer of The Usual Suspects) writers and directs this film which also stars Werner Herzog, Rosamund Pike and Richard Jenkins. Paramount Pictures is sending Jack Reacher to theaters on December 21st this year. http://www.firstshowing.net Cheers. ![]() |

I actually read the book this movie is based off of. Written by Lee Child, btw, not whoever that other guy is. So yeah, Jack Reacher, the super tall super muscular ex-military special investigator... played by Tom "I need to stand on my tippie toes to brush my teeth in a mirror" Cruise. I just don't know.
The book was pretty good though, so I hope they don't **** the movie up too bad. |

Reacher is supposed to be 6' 5" and 260 lbs and tough with it, from what I recall from the books - I just don't see Cruise as being up to the mark - weird thing is that Childs is supposed to be happy with this...
When I heard it was being made into a movie, I was expecting Adam Baldwin (6' 4") or Liev Schreiber (6' 3") as they're both close to the height and build one (I) think of for the character, their ages aren't far off it, and both are ruggedly handsome men. Shame, really, as with any other character it could make a good movie, but I think the fans of the books will either avoid it or be constantly thinking Cruise is a lightweight in the part. |

The other day several people were ridiculed for not being able to separate an actors real-life from their film and TV roles, and now everyone is saying that Tom Cruise, the actor, is too short to play a make believe character. I think that they are two completely different entities and a film can basically take the story wherever it wants. Also, some films aim to realistically represent the written material in film while others just use the core story and nothing else. That's fine with me. |

...and I bet only 2 of them actually read the books. The point that I was making, as I expect some others also were, is that when basing a character in a film on a character in a series of books who has a rather imposing physique, it is rather strange to use an actor who falls rather short of the character's description. That's why I said it would have been better if Cruise used another character's name for the role - on the other hand, there'd be a lot of work for even 'shorter' people (Cruise is reported to be 5' 7", but I don't know if that's in socks or with lifts). The plot does sound rather derivative, I'm sure I watched a movie or TV movie with the same sort of plot. |
