I'm going on Sunday, IMAX 3D. Can't wait http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/biggrin1.gif

the 3d is all kinds of awesome - normally, i'm not a fan (but i didn't see avatar in 3d and that's meant to be pretty good). but i was pretty blown away at how natural it seemed.

I saw it last night, enjoyed it but am confused about the following...

Spoiler! When you saw the Alien bloke get into his cockpit in order to set the ship to travel to Earth, I thought this would be what they find in Alien. The ships crashes, which would make sense because the ship they find in Alien isn't underground, yet he gets out and dies in the shuttle? I know David said that there were other ships but I presumed these were all underground like this one, then again the ship they find in Alien which has the dead Alien bloke sat in the cockpit, has a lot of room around it unlike in the ship they're on in Prometheus. I think I'm confusing myself a lot here but can anyone enlighten me on the matter...

Spoiler! Its not the same ship. Infact its not the same planet. The whole concept behind "explaining" Alien was to give some ideas for your imagination. Prometheus happens on LV-223, Alien/Aliens happens on LV-426. Different planet entirely. In my mind, as per the film, the engineers spent a lot of time experimenting and creating things for war. Its the reason most of them were killed off in Prometheus, something went wrong (hologram bit and all the dead bodies). The Planets around Calpamos are explained to be somewhat of War research outposts. Hence all the pods etc.

In my mind, on LV-426, a similar thing happen with the Alien infection getting loose. There are plenty of possibilities as to how Alien started with knowledge laid out in Prometheus, but Prometheus film has nothing to do with it directly.

Ah yes I completely forgot about the planet name!

I'm looking at booking to see this at the BFI IMAX. A lot of the best seats are booked though. Is it better to sit near the centre, but closer to the screen, or further away from the screen, but off to the side?

Spoiler! Worms that mutated to those snakes were totally new species. Right? I wonder what became of that biologist. Fifield was infected by that black ooze so he was different. Humans were way to create that gigantic facehuger that gave birth to alien...?
So much stuff to explain in future sequel.http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/excited1.gif

Beriilosal 06-07-2012 12:59 AM

So is it actually worth seeing this at an IMAX cinema? Someone said it wasn't.

induffike 06-07-2012 01:26 AM

My schedule limited me to regular 2d version but it was still good. You have to remember that this isn't "horror" movie like the original. More on the line with the sequels.

So the extra visual is extra.
Spoiler! by the way! I hope that worm like facehuger wasn't Predator...!

So no one knows?

I've done some Goolging and other people seem to think IMAX is worth it for this film.

Already seen it in 3D Vue cinema, but I plan to rewatch it at an IMAX once the crowds die down. It is entirely a film you would want to watch in IMAX and even if just for the stunning visuals entirely worth every penny.

Interesting... Bungle must have ignored me. Why?http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

Thanks, I've just booked it! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/cool1.gif

This will be my first experience of IMAX.

i really liked it on iMax.

i'd rather sit slightly to one side then too close on a "proper big screen" imax if you get the chance.

YES!

It was my first IMAX experience, not sure if that's why I thought it was so good though http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo.../confused1.gif. Think I had a smile on my face for 90% of the time.

viawbambutt 06-08-2012 04:32 PM

Saw the film. Loved it. It's essentially a sci-fi epic as opposed to a truly tension driven horror film (like the original Alien). The 3D was superbly done. See it in IMAX.

Also:

Spoiler! I love how the giant "face hugger" that impregnated the engineer looked like Cthulhu. Considering Alien was heavily Lovecraftian inspired, I thought it fit perfectly.
