I saw it last night, the story was actually more believable than what religious people believe.

Visually, it is very impressive. The writing sucked and I didn't think the story was very good, though.
Anyone else catch the robot calling her 'lisbeth' a couple of times. Kept waiting for her to go all dragon tattoo. I guess the cesarean was akin to the hell she went through in the dragon movies. |
Just got back from seeing it at the local cinema. Visually, it was good and the effects convincing. Sound wise, it was amazing, excellent use of surround and really helped set the scene. Spoiler! As to the film, well it was good if you are looking for an origin film as it answers pretty much every question there is to have about the Alien film. It explains the Space Jockey, how the Aliens came in to being and what their purpose was and this is where the majority of my rating comes from. As to a standalone film, it was only mediocre and was astonished to find that there were no full grown Aliens until the very end!
I did think there were some issues with the storyline. First off, if it went wrong for the Space Jockeys ( they were seen running for their lives! ) and they had all got infected then why were there no Aliens running about the place? It was clearly mentioned that one had a burst chest! What actually happened to the Space Jockeys, adn what really went wrong? Also at the end, she had 2 mins of oxygen remaning yet she never changed her suit from what I saw and went straight back outside again. Also David said he could fly other ships, but surely they would have Aliens on them so why would she want to fly it as David is clearly not to be trusted and would probably fly her back to earth?! Finally why did the other ships not take off, did the same thing happen to them as the main ship, again this was not explained. 7/10 ( would have been 6/10 as a standalone film, the extra mark is for explaining the origin story well ) |

Some answers Spoiler! I would guess there are no aliens running about, because it has been 2k years with no food. With storms of broken glass, I wouldn't expect anything aliens could eat, to live. She grabbed oxygen packs as soon as she stepped inside. Pretty sure that is what she was stuffing inside the bag. Maybe, maybe not. Just because there are other ships, does not mean the experiments were taking place on all of them. Maybe, they all grouped on that ship once on the planet. Who knows. As to trusting or not trusting david, what choice does she have? She is on a deserted, glass storm planet. If nothing else, david is her wilson. He is "free" now, so who knows how David will be? Undoubtedly, the sole purpose of this movie was to give us a bit of lore and set up the next one. What was not the purpose of this film was characterization and story development. I didn't give a **** about any of them. OK, maybe the black guy from the wire, but that had more to do with my love of the wire. In all truth, I think it would have been much better if we saw everything from david's perspective. He is the only one they even tried to develop, and just barely at that. |

Spoiler! Well that explains the oxygen, makes sense. Also fair point about it being 2k years, but they Aliens lay eggs ( not those metal container things ) and even if they died there should be some skeletons or something. The only evidence of Aliens was the saliva splattered on the door that David found. With regards David, she wanted the other ship destroyed to stop it reaching Earth, so surely she would sacrifice herself using the same principle rather than trust an obviously untrustworthy David not to take her back to Earth? |
I added this in an update Spoiler! He is "free" now, so who knows how David will be? did you see it, i think it is relevant.

As a film on the whole, fairly poor. Story, acting, dialogue, characterisation etc.
It did look great though, and the 3d was subtly done. So if you don't see it in 3d IMAX you are missing the very best of the film as the rest is average or less. |

fassbender is becoming one of my favourite actors. i really got the impression this film had a lot of extra content removed - hoping for a directors cut (kingdom of heaven was dragged right down into the dirt by orlando bloom, but the DC somehow manages to (not quite) undo the massive drag of having him in it). maybe the same thing could apply to a DC of prometheus - undoing some of the drag of having damon lindorf write for it. |

Major timeline conflict. Spoiler! Some think this explains the origins of the aliens prior to the first Alien movie, however, this does not explain the origins. If you think back, Aliens vs Predators accounts for aliens thousands of years in the past, long before the alien seen in Prometheus. It may have explained how they were created, this is certainly not the true origins of the species. Now a question I am wondering about is the first scene with the Space Jockey drinking that stuff and disintegrating into the water. Was this intentional or did he have an alternative purpose and the creation of life was simply an accident that was not intended? The later would certainly hint at why they would want to destroy earth. It may have answered some questions, but it left a whole lot unanswered. I just got back from seeing it at the Imax in 3D. While I am not a fan of 3D, I thought they did a great job with this one. |
i cant wait for the sequel by james cameron.
Major timeline conflict. ? ridley doesn't care about any sequels to alien. |

If you were to disregard the predator line entirely as if they never existed in the Alien universe, you can still say the aliens originated somewhere else. But what I find most bothersome is your unwillingness to even speculate how the two story arcs can be merged without conflicting with each other. We already know something attacked the Jockeys thousands of years before. And they never explained exactly what the black stuff was. So it could be quite possible to merge the timeline without conflicting with each other, but that goes into the many unanswered questions. But if you really want to stick with the Alien Canon only, even then, you have conflicts in the timelines. Prometheus takes place in 2093. The Derelict on LV-426 was found in 2122, only 29 years later. But the Derelict was described to be extremely old, more then a few centuries, and that ship already had aliens on board. So even in an alien specific canon, you have evidence that the aliens did not originate on LV-223 as seen in Prometheus. Some sources put it at upwards of in the millions of years old. |

Spoiler! So no one saw my "what the **** were those worms?"
They mutated from that black ooze and the larva on the floor. They way they looked somehow made me think Predator?! Remember (afaik) Fifield was infected by the black ooze not that "worm". They didn't show what happened to that biologist... |

The movie didnt really answer much about the previous Alien movies, instead it just created even more questions.
It was okay...but needed a proper conclusion. |

Spoiler! Such as what was behind the door with the image of the Alien on it and the significance of the pedestal with the green stone. But you are right in that the scene defnitly indicates the existence of the species in the Space Jockey history. I hope there is a Director's Cut that fills in some of the gaps to explain some of these unanswered questions. |

why did that crew member get a snake down the throat, and nothing happened- This was shown. When Fifield and Millburn was trapped in the Pyramid, Milburn was attacked by the snake that went down his throat. When they went to rescue the two, they found Millburn in the head room, already dead. Fifield was not found in the room, but attacked the ship which is the one they killed by running him over. |
