Anyone still watching Game of Thrones?
 

I am about to give up on it. I really liked it last season. But this season just blows. This is by far the best book in the series in my opinion, and the show is wasting time on things that never happened in the book instead of focusing on Tyrion, which book 2 is mostly about. It just sucks my life force watching it, and seeing what they are, and are not focusing on. Where are the frog people? Where is the super chain that gives tyrion victory? Why did they waste ten minutes having snow chase that girl? That never happened in the books and could have been spent on Arya or Tyrion.

Anyways, people still enthralled with this show?

I'm still watching it. I think so far it's great, but it is deviating from the second book.

Anyways, I think the producers kind of addressed it before the season started, that this is their interpretation of the story as a whole. I.E. they aren't necessarily going Season 1=Game of Thrones, Season 2=Clash of Kings, etc...

That's why they gave Theon a lot more screen time in Season 1, than he was actually present for in Book 1. Hope that answers your question. As for the frog siblings...I'm not sure they were cast. Maybe they figure Osha(sp) and Hodor will be sufficient. Plus as we know TV-Books is not always a literal translation.

I absolutely love the show, even with the changes. As long as they don't stray too far from what happens in the books though, but there are scenes in the book that last quite a long time and compacting that all into an hour long show is extremely difficult. The last episode had a few scenes which weren't in the book at all but were still brilliant.

Some people were complaining as to why Jaime and Robb are hardly in this season, well they were hardly in Book 2 as well but you heard others talking about them all the time. Don't worry, they'll get their spotlight yet, at least the TV show is giving placement to them now and then. Some things that only begin in Book 3 have already started in the TV show.

I'm currently on Book IV - A Feast for Crows, I can't believe we are still getting perspectives from characters we love to hate now. Makes for some interesting writing that's for sure. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/laugh1.gif

So far Book III - A Storm of Swords is my favorite. Yes it had a bit of a slower start, but once you get into it my goodness the writing, dialogue, and just the things that happen in the last half are awesome. I enjoyed it better than the original Game of Thrones and a Clash of Kings which is what we're seeing on TV right now.

Is your critique relevant to the show or are you don't like it that they're not following the books word by word ?

I think something this big and ambitious has to have some creative license to make it a workable TV show. I trust HBO more than just about any other to keep it faithful. As has already been said, the events are going to be moved around a little, and not just follow page by page. It means even those of us that have read the books, still get a few surprises.

Who is looking for word by word? I am just looking for them to follow the books. As in, dragons were never stolen in the book. Why steal them in the show? Or, how about this. The frog people I mention are some of the most important characters in the books, in the show, they don't exist. I guess that means john snow probably isn't going to be who john snow is in the books. They wasted 10 minutes on that chase scene, that did what exactly? Waste ten minutes that could be spent on something important. I am not bitching about scale, or budget constraints... I am bitching that the show is unrecognizable to the books. The majority of book 2 is on tyrion. How much of this season has been on him? 15%? It is 80% in the book.

Littlefinger is one of the smartest, conniving, mover's and shakers in the book. In the show he is so inept, he can't recognize Arya. Do you see no problem?

And book 1=season 1, book 2= season 2... beyond that it is 1.5 season to each book *from what they have said.

I believe that a show, even though it's based on a certain book/book series can do whatever it wants with the story, it really doesn't have to follow the books at all.

What I mean is that it can be a great show without following the books at all.

As for the show itself, it hasn't really shined this season, it's boring me a little bit.

On the other hand I would agree that it would have turned out better if they followed the books more closely.

I liked last season. It didn't follow the books verbatim, but it did follow book 1. This season is nothing like the book. Part of the problem is, since book 2 is so much about tyrion and how he takes control of the city and gets it ready for war, they don't spend much time on anyone else. The show seems to want to give everyone equal time, which means they are forced to make up conflicts that don't exist to get the pretty blonde on screen, even if all she does is scream threats like a child having a tantrum.

Which, admittedly, I might be doing here... but with reason.

Yeah, I'm finding it harder to follow this season, there seems to be nothing happening except for the preparation for an impending war but with a million characters each trying to have their bit on screen it feels that it's getting too stretched out.

I haven't read the books so can't really comment on how true it stays but I am starting to become a little impatient with it. I loved the first season, but I would like to see some footage of the battles fought over the various regions just to change up the pace. Not after pew-pew-pew a la Battleship or anything, but I feel it would really add something to its current form.

I'm still utterly hooked on it and I wish I had all the seasons already so I could just marathon through them.

I haven't read the books, just watched the show but I have a friend who has read them and he said that book 2 was his least favourite.
I'm not taking his side in any way, it's just interesting to hear a completely different opinion.

Since he told me that it was his least favourite of the books I didn't have my hopes up but I've been impressed with it so far. Though not much hasn't happened and it's mostly just a lot of characters getting hot-headed and wanting to start a fight. I would read the books but as I'm enjoying the episodes so much I think I'll wait but in my experience of reading books that then get made into films / series, I too often get annoyed with how the TV / films are different though at the same time it's still nice to be surprised by some events and to not make it too predictable for those who've read it before hand.

Haven't read the books but I'm still watching season two. Dinklage is the star of the show and the only reason I'm still watching it.

I can't think of a better actor for Tyrion.

I feel the same way, I'm kinda annoyed how they just skip the battles in the series..haven't read the books yet so I don't know if the actual battles are described or not and I'm quite aware this isn't LOTR movies, but I think it would be cool to have at least one epic battle per season. this is HBO after all, their budget should be able to cover it..

with that said, I'm still enjoying the season 2, although I do feel it's kind of slow paced..

I haven't watched the TV series at all yet, but I'm about 1/3rd of the way through book 5 of the series. The books are incredible and are well worth the read. It's daunting to see a 1000 page book, but they are quick to read through. I only read about 30-45 minutes a day. Tyrion is probably my favorite character followed by Daenerys and Jon Snow.

I plan on picking up season 1 on blu-ray soon.

Still watching, and enjoying, the series and haven't read any of the books yet.
Each episode is repeated several times during the week (we're about 4 weeks behind the 'States), which is handy because sometimes one doesn't quite catch something they say that's going to be important later.
