Default New car time, again.
Would you believe it's two years since the last one?.... Economising this time so here we go. An Audi A1 Black Edition with a 2.0 TDI.

Really happy with it so far. 140bhp/320Nm in a little car shifts it pretty well. It'll supposedly do 68mpg (although 50's is realistic) and is only £20 a year to tax. I got 5 years servicing thrown in too so running costs should be nice. Few options, best of which is the BOSE system; great for listening to Maroon 5 and Justin Bieber.

You pay a lot less for fuel, and it's taking a while for diesels to become as accepted.

Also, remember that's imperial (UK) gallons. So in US gallons it's about 56mpg I think.

Please no one make comments about how it's a homo's car, if that can be helped.

Do your eyebrows have any effect on the frequency of your car purchases?

Also, I only remember you having a Honda because a Honda is a first car kind of car.

Just because OHP tries to make fun of my eyebrows it does not mean there's anything abnormal about them. You have an incredible memory for remembering things like that though.

I had the Honda about two years, then since July 2010 I had an Audi A4.

We don't have many Turbo Diesels in the states which is what is required to get that kind of fuel economy.

As for the US vs UK gallon, yeah thats true. All the little standards which aren't really standards.

Those engines are great for mileage. I have the same engine in my car (VW Golf TDI). I can get about 40mpg suburb driving (80+% of my driving) and last good highway drive, I got 52mpg. That's US MPG. I've never regretted going Diesel.

Did you get a manual or DSG version?

It's a manual. I didn't have a choice, but I think i'd get a manual anyway.

Do the pictures work for you?

Holy wow, you have a Golf TDI... you and I have something in common!

All you need now is a Mac, or at least an iPad!

EPA ratings generally under-estimate mileage, because they have to take into account that most people cannot drive sensibly. A US Golf TDI can easily do 55mpg (US gallons) on the highway.

Pfft - I want to retire at 50, what am I going to do with some flash-ass car in New York City? I never buy anything I can't pay for right away, including my car.

Oh, and I probably don't earn half what you think.

It's good to know that when you made your transatlantic hop, you didn't misplace the value of flippancy.

I could do a Tinomen and say I knew you were being flippant, and try and turn this around... but it's irretrievable.

It's been an odd week; I blame extrinsic influences.

Even a Tinomen wouldn't save you from this one.

Nah I can't bring myself to spec the satnav. It costs about 6 times more than an aftermarket Garmin does, and I don't use them that often either. It would work out costing about £50 for every use while I have the car. Display is still nice for showing music info, car settings menu and stuff like that.

Oh and typical thread dreailermoose

That could have been funny if you'd just tried that little bit harder to spell it correctly.
