You don't need to link your steam account to your FM forum account you know. You know, just 3 years ago steam integration was unthinkable round these forums. The point I'm making here is one small step for our social lives, one giant leap for our social world. If Zuckerberg hasn't taught us anything while using the general public's privacy as a sort of guinea pig, ruining privacy and wrecking family's at the flick of a virtual switch - then i suppose we still have much to learn. Gabe could be dead tomorrow, then what? Gabe and Steam are synonymous to most. Without Gabe around who knows what would happen to steam. We may not agree with the tribunal tasked with filling his hefty shoes. And sadly, this very same issue could occur with any digital service you enjoy. New upper management can really screw things up, could you imagine losing Gabe? How could that effect steam services? Integrations? Its inevitable that one day FB, G+ and Steam will all have to deal with this issue. So while you're right, today it may not be necessary that we log in with steam - what do the developers have planned for tomorrow? I don't like the idea of having my grandma inadvertently/accidentally heaped into the same social circle as my steam friends who talk about porn, drugs and videos games just because someone at FB /VALVE HQ felt like experimenting with the product. Course' it really doesn't matter considering kids these days are brainwashed into sharing every single detail of their life, as if privacy has no value. I remember following along with the multitude of sheeple (many on these forums) the day gmail came on the scene. Some years later we find out that not only do they scan through our private, personal emails - but they target specific emails and link them to your search results. Had someone said plainly they would give me awesome free email with unlimited space, the only stipulation being they can maintain a database, sift through my emails and target key phrases for advertising; I would of politely told them to go *@&# their self. Once enough people adopt something it then becomes the new norm, leaving the old norms that value outdated things like privacy behind. The way these tech companies keep "accidentally" tracking us on purpose, you'd think less people would be willing to roll over and adopt whatever digital tumor the tech companies are trying to sell us. But nope, not the case. Every-time we quickly adopt a service without first examining it, we encourage developers to take the next bold step. |

My Steam profile is set public to all, what difference is it to me if I voluntarily link my Steam account to here.
It isn't my facebook, I'd never link my facebook to anywhere (I don't actually use it much anyway). I think if you're this worried about all you've mentioned, just stop using the internet. |
