I am late to the plate, but I hope you're recovering well.

I can relate bro. I have CFS/ME + Fibromyalgia + my Stroke (Bloot clots everywhere in my veins in my brain and Chronic Severe Head Pain 24/7) + a few endocrine disorders.

Yeah I'm a complex medical case, to say the least.

Hope you are resting (and recovering swiftly), and on the good stuff!
A_T, are there any treatments for what you have? How did it all come about? Seems like an awful hand to be dealt in life.

***I will respond more in-depth to this later. My insomnia is finally taking a nose dive, so I feel a bit sleepy. I will elaborate.

Are you taking Gabapentin ?

My missus has CFS/ME + Fibromyalgia and was getting the same headaches you describe, lasting from all day to several hours at a time, the pain was like a woodpecker constantly tapping on the inside of her skull, over the left side, predominately.

She had been on Gabapentin for over 3 years to help her sleep at night cos of the pain from everything, I convinced her to slowly withdraw from it and after several weeks of bad headaches and other withdrawal symptoms, the headaches have stopped and she hasn't had one for over a month, She also cut down her Paracetamol intake from 8 to 2 a day, I was concerned for her Liver too as its very easy to OD on Paracetamol and she's been doing 8 or more per day for 3-4 years.

Not saying if your taking Gabapentin you should stop, but might be something to look into.

While there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that gabapentin is effective for chronic pain, there aren't really conclusive randomized control studies that demonstrate its effectiveness.

Well there was a very good chance its what caused the headaches and they were pretty much 24/7 like Alaskan-thunder said, so just glad she off them now, but if she has Crohn's she might need to go on something else in order to control the pain and help her sleep.

I'm alive. It went well. Woke up feeling really good. Overnight got painful and still is though. Don't think morphine was working. Intense pain in shoulders for some reason. Will only get better.

Sounds positive. Hopefully pain will disappear pretty soon.

Can't believe it hasn't been asked yet - are the nurses hot? I had a stay in IC a while back and I definitely think they were the pick of the bunch

On a more serious note, I hope the surgery has the desired result and things make a marked improvement in your health

Codeine seemed to have that effect on me. Just a side-effect and nothing to worry about.

Ask the nurses if you could have an antihistamine, that should relieve the itch at least. If you've just had the bowel resection then i feel for you, my brother had something very similar (iirc) done for Ulcerative Colitis last year, it was a bit tough for him to get used to at first, but now he says it's great and that it's been years since he's been this pain free, so totally worth it.

Good to know you are doing well.

Let the team know that you're itching, they'll give you something. Sometimes benadryl works, there are also other options.

If the pain increases (Hope it doesn't) ask for either Fentanyl or some Dilaudid. The latter being very strong, make sure to get some nausea meds infused first! (I've been around the block with every pain med, IV and Oral)

Please do not follow this advice.

Do inform your nurse/doctor as frequently as necessary (even if that means ringing that button every 15 minutes) to get your pain addressed. However, please do not start asking for pain meds by name. It really doesn't sound good.

In most hospitals, if you ASK for dilaudid you have pretty much drawn "junkie" on your forehead, whether you meant to or not.

If your team is not addressing your pain adequately, ask them to consult pain management. If nothing is done within few hours, do ask to speak to a patient advocate. Everyone's pain needs to be addressed to the best possible manner it can be within realm of safety.

Lol, I've been in and out of the hospital 10 times in the last 3 years since my Stroke in Jan '09, I know what pain meds work and which don't for me (Morph and Fentanyl do nothing anymore). Was just giving him some advice on stronger meds. (which if his pain does increase, he is aware of the better medication when the Dr.(s) suggest a new/increased dose of medicine.)

I'm not saying, "ASK FOR THIS NOW".

**And as to my comment about being around the block with IV and Oral pain meds, it's because of my 24/7 severe chronic head pain. I didn't mean to sound like an addicted user. I take 30mg of Oxycodone every 4ish hours now (as prescribed)**

So glad to hear the procedure went well. Through it all, the world can be beautiful, and I wish you only the best in your recovery. Stay positive brother, and do not hesitate to ask any of us for help if you need it.
