Well everything I managed to eat the last 2 days I through up because my bowls hadn't 'woke up' yet. Man, was that agony. Better now though.
I feel for ya bro. I've been through that throw up everything in the hospital.

Did they give you some nausea meds? (Phenergan? That works better than others)

I have been on anti nausea, but nothing was going to stop it happening. Feeling brave so will try eating again today.

Maybe until Friday, as long as I'm eating again. Was sick a lot last night. Painful. And had an EG tube I think, which was aweful.

I feel for you. It's a terrible dilemma too - opiates slow your intestinal motility, so the more pain relief you get, the less your bowels will be likely to move, the more pain you'll have. It's a pretty nasty thing to be dealing with. But just hang on, and you'll pull through just fine.

Is there a possibility of going on an insoluble fiber overload to help with the lack of peristalsis in the colon while on opiates?

Everyone in the world will go blind from playing too much Diablo 3 and you'll be the only one who can see.
Silly reference to Day of the Triffids there

Glad to hear you're on the mend

If you mean NG tube (nasogastric tube...up through the nose and into your stomach) then I feel for you. I've had that, and that was an absolutely horrible experience. Mine started to feel better the day after they put it in, but after they did another CT scan that morning, had to re-adjust and push it in a few inches...started from square one. The surgeon had me on dilaudid after that surgery. Man, that stuff is crazy. A few seconds after they injected it into the IV line, I felt goooooood...for a few hours at least.
Thinking about it, I'm actually kind of surprised they gave me dilaudid...My pain was actually worse after my laparoscopic appendectomy, where they gave me demerol and percocet. (This surgery was NOT laparoscopic...)

Anyway, feel better man.

Yeah NG tube. Absolutely horrible. I think some people can tolerate it better, but it just wasn't something for me. I had it down for a while, and when I was feeling sick they tried syringing the contents on my stomach out, but it just wasn't working. Then I puked and that worked a lot better.

People react to things differently - sometimes it isn't the pain, but the feeling of 'wrongness' that makes it so unpleasant.

Here's hoping that you never have one used on you again.

Mine was a bit painful going in, mainly in my nasal cavity. Even with the lidocaine gel, it just hurt. They first tried the left, and when that didn't work, went on to the right. Overall though, it was definitely the "wrongness" as you put it that was the worst part. Going in, I couldn't help but gag and vomit quite a few times. It took a few days for the tube to seemingly straighten out and to not feel as bad. Had that thing in for almost a week. All in all though, the NG tube beat constantly vomiting, especially after the surgery. Coughing or, God forbid, sneezing right after...that hurt like a mofo even with the pain killers. I can't imagine what vomiting would have felt like with a 6" incision in my abdomen.

Glad to hear you're okay. I was in the hospital last week too. I went in for abdominal pains (thought it was appendicitis), they did a cat scat and it turned out that my intestine had kinked/twisted and wasn't allowing anything to pass through, and building up back pressure. Hurt like heck. They did the NG tube on me and operated on me the next day. They just cut me open, unkinked the intestine and sewed me back up. That NG tube was in me for 3 days though, it sucked. They had me on Dilaudid on a clicker-dripper, so that was nice (I clicked it frequently lol). Feeling well though now. Glad you are too!

Haha! I'm not even going to correct that, it's too epic.

"Cat scat" is a new form of voodoo diagnosis. I'm sure you can guess what it is they rub on you...
