Just got back, what a rush that is. 2 days of speed, not just watching speed, but participating in speed! Had a chance to thrash the TransAm a little bit. The brakes were nowhere near good enough so I didn't do any hot sessions. However, even with touring, I still put about 2 hours worth of hard cornering on the car and was able to exit corners at full throttle. Tires are amazing, love the grip they offer.
Since GM sponsors the track, and sent us goodies to raffle off we decided to take a picture of ALL of the GM vehicles that were at the track. This isn't actually ALL of the GM cars, since some were actually in a touring session. I took a series of pics and stitched them together. They are pretty large. All totaled we had 159 cars at our 2 day event, and awesome turnout. http://home.comcast.net/~thirdgen89g.../MFBA_Pan1.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~thirdgen89g.../MFBA_Pan2.jpg |
Got some video's from people who attended up on youtube. You can catch my car in the last bit of this clip on a Touring lap. No real speed in that one and the wind makes it impossible to hear the car (you can a bit. I barely recognize it but but my distinctive exhaust note is there).
Now, for the more exciting videos. Remember, these are NOT pro drivers. Theres are every day joes with differing levels of experience. |
Mmm, that white AMX (?) is a darned quick little motor car - an original Trans-Am spec car or just well sorted?

I am gonna be there next year for sure.
I'm going to use my current shell, bent frame and all, as a prototype, get everything aaaall worked out, and then swap it all to a new shell. Got my exhaust half done, and as soon as I purchase a larger turbo http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/devil1.gif, the rest is being finished, then I'll finish the suspension. Then it's time for some engine management and tuning, and lots and lots of boost. That looks so fun. |

Pro Touring class. I don't know the HP specs on it, or what was done to the suspension but it was blowing by every stock car on the track. And this was their SLOW car. They brought a Pro-Touring split bumper Z28 with 690rwhp!!!http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/excited1.gif http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_2670.jpg We also had a Ferrari 355 GTS, Ferrari 430 Scudaria, Radical SR3, and a Diasio 962R. The Diasio 962R was the coolest track day car there. 1300lbs, 255hp Renesis Rotary engine making 255hp. VERY quick car, though they were on a virgin run, the car had only been started once before. So they were waving all sorts of people by. They also got some okay shots of my GTA on track. http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_2763.jpg http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_2809.jpg http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_2810.jpg http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_2811.jpg http://i1150.photobucket.com/albums/...2/IMG_2812.jpg |
Don't know about the 'pro touring', I was thinking it may have been originally built for the seventies 'Trans-America' racing series which, IIRC, was for production based cars with engines under 305CID (5 litres) - this was why Chevrolet, Ford, Pontiac and others had those screaming factory option 302 and 303 engines we love so much http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/cool1.gif

Both cars probably had between 70k-100k US into them. They are NOT cheap. But they are very fast. Good site for Pro Touring and G-Machine cars. http://www.lateral-g.net/ --- Post Update --- Quote:

LoL. Someone snapped a pic of me at Road America when I wasn't paying attention. Wasn't sure what I was looking at cause it looks like I'm staring down the camera.
Seems perfect for a caption. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7218/7...b60e9e3f_c.jpg |
One of our club members made a new best lap after the event. So here's his 2006 Dodge Viper. :)
2:23. He's getting darn fast too. Of special note, look at the lateral grip meter in some of the corners. VERY close to 2G cornering spikes, his average is near 1.5g! |
I hope he's got a good oiling setup - there's a fair bit of discussion here about bearing issues with the LS7 'spec' engine for one of the classes. !.5 G is like tilting the engine over 56 degrees and 2 G is like 63 degrees!
We suspect the stock LS7 dry sump isn't scavenging properly due to oil collecting in the outer head and cylinder bock, but not confirmed yet - I've suggested building a tiltable engine test stand and checking how the dry sump tank level is affected. There's one particular long sweeping right on a local track, that I think I mentioned before, that's already claimed a number of engines in other vehicles due to oil surge http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/sad1.gif |

Its an awesome ride, recently he stripped the car out and caged it. I think this is his greatest increase in performance. The car lost roughly 50-75lbs overall, and his confidence in the safety of the car went up, so he's willing to push the car that much harder. |
