4G...WTF?
I have 10MB DSL at home. It's the fastest access you can get out here in BFE. Friend tethered his phone to my PC. I'm downloading at 5.5 MegaBYTES per second. ... ... Screw landlines.

Arent the bandwith caps horrible? my own plan is 1GB per month. On a phone thats not an issue. PC however you would reach that in a week easily.
|
Yeah, 4G tethering is great if:
a) You can plug your phone into the wall b) You have a stable signal c) You have unlimited data d) Your carrier doesn't charge you for the privilege to tether e) You have 4G LTE Which basically means you don't have T-mobile. /rant My friend with Verizon does this for us when we need to DL a Steam game for a LAN, it's 10x faster than the land line connection. |

A few weeks ago I was having some issues with Comcast, they overcharged me for some things, and I refused to pay the bill. They disconnected my internet, and I tethered to HSPA+ phone on AT&T for a few days, it wasn't too bad. I have a 5GB cap, and I used 3GB in a few days. The Comcast issue was resolved btw, they were wrong.

4g can do (in best connection) 100mb/50mbhttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...s/excited1.gif

Damn,
You guys are making me dislike my 4g service. I have Epic 4G from sprint which uses the Clear network and at my office, I only get 5Mb/s (home is 1.5-2Mb/s). After seeing what you guys are getting. I think my next phone is going to be a 4g LTE phone. |

Not only is Verizon's service ludicrously fast, but they're the only ones in my area to even offer 3g. Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. are ALL stuck at 1x speed around here. I hate their pricing, but I can't deny that they have by far the best network. |
It's not just the caps, it's the latency. Sure, streaming and browsing might be fine, but you'll struggle if you're playing CoD or Halo 4...

PC, to wifi to cell to cell tower to backbone. You're going to get variability in that continuously - from what I can tell, pings on 4g are usually 30 - 70 msecs... my wifi is usually 22 - 30 msecs and when on wired, I can get 15 - 20 msecs. Maybe some people can test and report back. |

I did read that the new iPad can supply 25 hours of 4g connectivity when used as a wifi hotspot (screen off). How bonkers is that... |
