Ridiculously impressive yes. The tech they used (used by the Gorillaz too) is very cool for live performances and Digital Domain did a hauntingly incredible job on recreating Tupac.

Dead singer, fake concert.
You're such a negative person. Positive people say; wow, look at that accomplishment. Negative people say: why would you bother doing that.

I like the accomplishment, the tech is amazing.

What I don't like is that there's a dead Tupac singing a fake concert.

But why? It's not like they have dug him up or anything, and this tech (or similar) has been used before in films and other places.

EDIT: Looking into it, the technology of having tupac on stage appears to be a Musion Eyeliner. Nowhere near a hologram, but still fairly impressive. The major accomplishment is programming tupac to be tupac.

It's not my kind of music, there's very little of this style i really like. Still, you have to admit it looks pretty impressive and Tupac was way ahead of his time.

I do find the tech amazing but I don't appreciate musically because it's fake.

It diminishes the art.

You know you're on a tech forum, right?

Yes, and I was talking about the performance not the tech involved.

Like I said before, the tech is great and massively impressive but I hope that this doesn't mean that we're gonna have fake concerts by dead artists everywhere.

Wow that is amazing. Getting ever closer to be able to have your own holo deck

What amazing tech. Fantastic.

To the people saying its disrespectful or weird. How is it ? We celebrate dead people in videos all the time. Holograms are just the future of that. Quite frankly i think its incredible.

Maybe project blue beam is really possible :P

It looks impressive! But then the video ends and you watch some video responses and then you wish you were as dead as Tupac.

It isn't a hologram at all. It's a projection. It's been used for years and is a modern day version of an ancient illusion.

The amazing feat is the fact that tupac is a complete digital rendering from scratch, no archive footage is used.

Ah yes you are correct. Its not a real hologram in the ultimate sense. Still it is very good "holographic" image. Its still pretty sweet.
I assume that you have to be in the right place to see this thing ? I.e the person on the stage next to it wouldn't see anything ?

Think of it like your car window in front of you as you drive. It is a piece of material at a 45 degree angle and the screen that drives the imagery is down below, you can see it in the video somewhat.

Yes, as far as I read, Digital Domain completely digitally recreated him from the voice work, to the wrinkles in his jeans.

Here is a video from the manufacturer:

Saves any confusion of the facts.

I'm more impressed with the 3d modelling and animation than with the projection system itself.
