$1000 fine for throwing Frisbee/Football on beach in L.A.

Yeah, I know California is broke and all, but the LA council needs to be shot

When you head down to the beach for a little fun this summer, county officials want you to leave the pigskin at home.

The Board of Supervisors this week agreed to raise fines to up to $1,000 for anyone who throws a football or a Frisbee on any beach in Los Angeles County.

In passing the 37-page ordinance on Tuesday, officials sought to outline responsibilities for law enforcement and other public agencies while also providing clarification on beach-goer activities that could potentially disrupt or even injure the public. meh, another ten years or so and we can just fence it off as part of mexico. No loss.

Wow, that's just lame.

Here we have a new law where dog owners can be fined up to 2500 euros for having their dog on the beach or in any of the swimming zones at beaches.

I could see a fine for throwing a frisbee/football over people sitting down, or having a dog off leash/not cleaning up after them but not thousands of $ for what has always been acceptable. That is just a money grab from people who should be unemployed next election cycle.

How are guys going to meet girls now? How many cheesy beach movies use the football trick near a group of pretty girls. And the thing is, it works! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ies/smile1.gif

Dogs can't be taken on the beach between May and October on my local beach. It was funny when we had the October heatwave and seeing people walking their dogs.

Beaches are public places; anyone paying their community charges should be entitled to use it. Obviously use common sense and not do anything stupid near busy areas.

dogs fouling on the beach and useless owners now cleaning it up - probably a case of teh council being sued for a child getting sick as a result , meant those no dogs on beaches rule came in - same with no balls or frisbee`s as well - council been sued for injury so they up the fine.

or the more likely reason that california is 25 billion in debt

Is that a bad thing?

I find it incredibly annoying when I'm chilling somewhere and I get a football in my face. Especially when the beaches get crowded and people still think there's enough space to play football. Next time I'm taking a knife and after the third time of the ball hitting me, I'll deflate it. Either be careful or suffer the consequences of my wrath. I can't chill when I feel like I could get hit any time.

Of course it's a money grab. The fine is not for not cleaning up after the dog or for not having it on a leash. It's for having a dog at all, on any beach.

It was probably an over-reaction probably due to a few beaches in the Sliema area in Malta having a bigger number of dogs on the beach. Here in Gozo (other island) I don't see more than a couple of dogs or usually none at all. Yet the law is forced everywhere.

In this case, yes. The fines are grossly expensive for this matter.

A lot of dogs running about on a beach and shitting everywhere are a nuisance but I don't have any problem with people having them on leash and picking up after them.

I also have a dog but it has never been to the beach with us.

That's the problem, common sense really isn't that common, if it was there would be no need for laws like these.

Huge disbalans in the distribution of wealth = downsizing buying power = inability to pay taxes = empty budget.

Empty budget ignite desperate measures as this one.

Wow... im sure the world and especially america is gradually turning into a dictatorship...... What right do the government have to ban someone from playing football on a beach?! They will be banning drinking water next...

kiosokkn 02-10-2012 09:11 AM

lets ban breathing.

I wonder how many more things are banned in modern America compared to 1943 Germany.

I cant believe they can ban playing with your balls on a beach. Disgrace.

If there's clearly enough space to play a game it's fine, but if it's crowded and people are trying to relax then I'd forbid it, although hefty fines are a little too much. people should just use their common sence, but unfortunately too many have the "I don't give a sh*t if I annoy someone else" attitude.

Few dogs poo'ing on the beach vs thousands of irritating little sh*ts littering everywhere.

GG.

That's what I was thinking. It's also a beach, which means it's situated next to a large body of water into which countless animals have defecated and urinated.
