Default Holy ****ing **** !!!!
Omg i just witnessed one of the scariest things of my life.
My Mom etc are here for xmas and whilst her partner was outside for a smoke he started calling me. I was in the living room, not really caring so i waited a min and slowly proceeded to the balcony.
He keeps going on with "What is that" pointing to the sky.
And i sh!t you not my knees went soft as i looked up, i´m not sure if it was a asteroid/meteor or some kind of trash but the sky was bright (it´s already very dark here) and this thing which was apparently breaking up in a few i´d say 15-20 very bright objects was tracing along the sky imo not that high leaving a massive smoke trail behind it.
I rushed back in for my Camera but only got the last few seconds of it in the distance (which FFS i accidently deleted) but it was blurry anyway.
Honestly i´m a bit shaky atm, this was BIG.
I can´t find anything on the local news yet but i will report back once i see something.

Guess that means we aren't getting any presents from Santa tonight.

very funny
Honestly this thing which was breaking up had from my perspective pea sized pieces coming off of it, which scared me because from my point of view this thing was very large.

Sounds pretty cool, hopefully if it was that big someone actually got a pic of it. Was it not making any sound though?

Maybe the most likely explanation.

Could be that I suppose. They've been quick with the report though if it is.

Slowly news is popping up

Here´s some Twitter guys vid, click me
Now this vid was taken about 80km north of me whilst traveling south and this thing/stuff was waaaay lower as it passed overhead and really brightened up the sky.
I´d say it made another 30 km before it hit the ground somewhere, i´ll post more once more is out.

Looks kinda slow to be a meteor. Usually they hit the atmosphere much faster and tend to skip off.

LoL, while searching for more on this, I ran across this article. WTF lol check this quote out.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/s...meteorite.html

Gerrit Blank, 14, was on his way to school when he saw "ball of light" heading straight towards him from the sky.
A red hot, pea-sized piece of rock then hit his hand before bouncing off and causing a foot wide crater in the ground. Umm...

last time I checked anything that can bounce off your hand is unlikely to cause a 1ft crater in the ground! lol.

I actually think it's too small to maintain that velocity.

I'm thinking it was likely debris thrown from the impact that hit his hand, if anything.

Then they would have found a bigger meteorite. In the UK, a 1 foot hole in the road wouldn't be a meteor, it would be a pothole.

There was a Russian space probe* due to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere around about now - it was supposed to leave orbit but that engine failed and it was in a terminal orbit.
The other thing could be a small meteor or meteorite breaking up as it entered the upper atmosphere. I saw one many years ago and it appeared to be huge, lighting up the patches of cloud even though it was probably very small.

*Ah, found it - http://www.space.com/13960-russia-fa...t-reentry.html - seems like it isn't quite due to burn up yet, so may have been a random space rock.

That's not due until about the 18th Jan.
