It comes out when Duke finally runs out of bubble gum.

gogoleanylinkfo 01-23-2011 12:48 PM

In that case, shouldn't he sue the previous owners?

Supposedly, Gearbox is actively reaching out to retailers and asking them to honor the Duke Nukem pre-orders.

"There are a lot of people who pre-ordered the game. We've been starting to talk with retailers because we didn't take them directly, and 3D Realms didn't take them, it was all retailers going 'I'm going to take this guy's money,'" Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said to VG247.

"We've started to engage them, saying 'Hey, you've got customers who you made a promise to, and any bad feeling they have will reflect on us, so can we work together to do something for those people?' I don't know what we can do yet, but something should be done for the people who pre-ordered."

Duke Nukem was also the name of a Captain Planet villain--a guy in an unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt with pebbly yellow radioactive skin. He represented the incredible environmental dangers posed by nuclear power. Man, the people who did that show were hacks.

I remember watching that show a bit when I was a kid. There was one villain who left his fridge door open for no other reason than to waste power. What I never really understood is what motivated the villains. Businesses may pollute the environment to pull a profit, but who the **** intentionally leaves the fridge open? Then your food gets spoiled and your electricity bill goes up. I mean really.

Or the villains who would dump a whole shitload of crap just somewhere just to kill off an endangered species. Where does that fit into their business model? It always baffled me.

I don't remember any of their names. I must have been about 8 when I watched the show.

c-cialis 01-26-2011 02:03 AM

What does that have to do with Captain Planet?

avdddcxnelkaxz 01-26-2011 02:56 AM

I have only vague memories of the show: the redheaded kid was a douche; "heart" was, as many people have pointed out, the crappiest possible power; the ending theme song gets stuck in your head. I can still recall that song today, sadly.

masterso 01-26-2011 03:53 AM

I think I'll actually buy this game just because I wanted to buy it back in the late 90's. That way I can honestly say I waited the whole time for Duke Nukem Forever. http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...es/biggrin.gif

Hell, it can't be worse then Civ5.

Yeah, liberals used to totally kick conservatives' asses at propaganda.
Hey there was GI Joe

Ccddfergt 01-26-2011 06:23 AM

Nah I think this is pretty jingoistic. I mean it was the late 80's but they knew to pit the Joe's against TERRORISTS called Cobra (and what part of the world are cobra snakes native to? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif)... Then bam when the kids who grew up watching it were old enough to enlist, September 11th http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/wink.gif

"G.I. Joe is the code name for America's daring highly-trained special mission force. Its purpose: to defend human freedom against COBRA, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world."

Nah, GI Joe was just mildly jingoistic in tone, IIRC. No, not even jingoistic, just blandly and inoffensively patriotic, like Norman Rockwell with rocket launchers. Now, if GI Joe had spent several episodes sending Snake Eyes to beat the snot out of some anti-globalization protesters, you'd have a point. Also, I would probably still be watching it.
+1

Never saw it. Is it worth seeing Elok? I have a backlog of movies I need to see.
