Well I have been in the airforce for 7 years. Im an E-5. AMMO! This week marked my first PT test failure
Im 6'6'' 275 lbs. I have a 40 inch waiste. Im easily the strongest person in my duty section Heres the funny story, I took my PT test in the morning. Later that day I was out working with some heavy equipment. We were building a MAC. You Ammo guys should know what Im talking about. There was an aluminum crate with parts to the Munitions Assembly Conveyor in it. Some of which are very heavy. One of the smaller airman on my crew was attempting to pick up some of the parts out of this can, and failing miserably. He walked over and asked me if I would pick these Items up for him. My response was this; "What did you score on your PT test?" he replied, "a 99"". To which I stated, "I just failed mine so lift that shit your damn self." Of course he couldnt lift a 150 lb mechanical hoist. I had to do it. Im pretty fed up with this waiste measurment BS. The Airforce claims that the PT test is a "strength" test. I can assure you it is not. I just read somewhere that the DoD spends between 19 and 21 BILLION dollars a year on our healthcare. And I can see how this is unacceptable. I just wish the entire "Fit to Fight" kick wasnt such a blatant deceitful lie. The D0D simply no longer wants to pay for our healthcare when we retire because quite simply our country cannot afford it. Which is all good in my book. I know it has nothing to do wiht fit to fight, because I am the most combat ready perosn in my section, but apparently I am no where near as fit to fight as a 136 lb. kid who cant lift a can of 20mm ammo. My only problem with this is, I am perfectly healthy. I have near perfect blood preassure and cholesterol levels. I dont smoke. I rarely drink, and on a bomb pad I can work circles around these tiny people who score 90'a and 100'a on thier PT test. Apparently having the strength to accomplish one's duties has no place in "Fit to Fight". It's all a joke. I wont be kicked out yet, I'll go through the Fat Boy program and most likley will barely scrape by on my next test, but I'll get the boot eventually. I really dont care anymore. Not long ago I heard Command Chief Mckinnley state that hieght has noithing to do with waiste size. Thats the funniest thing I have ever heard. So a guy that is 5'6'' and a guy that is 6'6'' and wears a 4xl glove gets scored the same for body size? great news guys. We got socialists in Washington and our Armed Forces are turning into the Worlds Biggest NANNY state. |

Jig87,
Understand your frustration, I am around the same build. I agree that it is STUPID that a guy 5'5 has the same waist as 6'4! I have been typing for 20 min and have deleted everything probalby 5 times. All I can say is you are correct and I feel your pain. Wish I knew how to say what I wan't to more tactfully, but I am in Mx and tact isn't one of my strong suits! Feel for you!!! |

Why did the AF change the PT test to the way it is? I'm just curious because I work with AF and hear them complain about it and how someone scored a 92 and failed. It confused me before and now confuses me more. So in the Army you have to get at least 60 in each event. So you can get a 100 in two events and like a 59 in one event and you scored a 259 but you still failed because you failed one event. Is that about the same with you guys except your waist still counts in? I think the whole waist thing is ridiculous. For us you can pass a APFT but if you fail weight you get flagged for weight and that's it.

Our best TSgt just lost his line number to MSgt for failing his third PT test by half a pushup. He passed his fourth attempt and is looking forward to making MSgt (again). ![]() That is unsat in my opinion. The Army's attitude is, how do you expect to lead in the front and be respected by your subordinates if you cannot pass your PT test? |

dude. a 40" waist on anyone is HUGE. My 40 inch waist looks just like a 5'5' guys 35 inch waist. Im not saying I am skinny but I wouldnt say I am fat. I have a large frame, not much I can do about it. When I got back from my deployment my waist was a 38 and I weight 200 pounds. I am now 220 and my waist is a 39. Using these measurements I would need to weight 140 to have a 35 inch waist. Now that would be healthy for me. |

Alright so I have failed #2 and then decided that I needed to go get profile since I did break my knee cap. I have heard the walk test is harder than the run. Anyone actualy know if this is true? |
