I have been getting leg cramps just on my shin/calf area for weeks now, mostly during the night and lately I wake up with them being very sore.
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas how to prevent them. I am on my feet for hours at a time and I don't need the leg cramps slowing me down. Any suggestions? |

I get legs cramps often too.
I have been told its due to a lack of salts in the body. If you have a more physical job or exercise alot it can be common if you lack certain minerals. I used to get them more often when I was in hospitality standing up all day walking around You can try magnesium and calcium supplements or sodium supplements. As always its good to check with a doctor or a chemist to make sure these are right for you and there are no underlying problems. You can also take a look at your diet. See if you can alter your diet to include more of these minerals. |

I have to say this but getting an xray to make sure there is nothing else going on is always a good thing!
![]() But what helps me when my body hurts from pressure of being on my feet all day is takeing the pressure off at night. I raise my knees, I place pillows under my knees when I sleep. This takes pressure of your back and your legs while you sleep. I was told to do this when my back went out. When it went out I wasnt walking properly, and it affected my legs. When I went for my MRI, the tech saw my pain in my face he smiled grabbed 2 large pillows placed them under my knees, and told me this should help you a bit. I swear when I got up I felt the difference! I wasnt cured lol But I was definitely more comfortable! my legs felt so much better. I actually gave the guy a squish to thank him before I left lol. Since then when my sons had growing pains in there legs (I don care what science says they exist lol) I would grab those pillows and place them under there knees and massage there legs. a sore body or pulled muscle, those pillows came out. Our bodies have a hard time healing in pain, pain tenses the muscles and the body prolonging the healing process. At night when we sleep we give our bodies the chance to regenerate. This is One of the reasons when you take meds or vitamins it works better at night while your body is resting, and it can do its stuff. |

Sounds like it could be Restless Leg Syndrome mine comes & goes the pain is mostly at night & keeps me up at night.
I also had bad leg cramps when I was pregnant and the dr told me to take extra calcium which helped a lot. Potasium helps a lot too. Sometimes massaging them with massage oil helps too. My RLS really happens when I stand for hrs at at a time like when I was working in a grocery store on my feet nonstop. |

if your blood sugar and hormones are ok, well thats good to know and takes away major problems... good for you that you had it checked.
not familiar with people having problems with quinine... what happened? once again, you may not be absorbing your minerals -- try them at homeopathic strengths... also, take lemon juice in water a few times a day... this will alkalize the body and ease the pain and discomfort and balance the chemistry that is somehow out... also, i forgot to check sulphur... you may need sulphur. |

I tried the sulphur as well as the lemon juice before and they would only work for a few days at best then the pain would come back.
The last few days I have had only a little pain. I pray everynight and ask the angels to help me not have so many at night which seems to work better than anything else for me. |

I will send you Reiki as well Cathy. Try doing a meditation where you pull in white light into your crown and down your body. I have one such meditation I got from a friend of mine. I will ask her if I can share it with you.
Do you have yahoo messenger or MSN? PM me that info and I'll send it when she gives me the "Ok". ![]() |

I have finally found the solution to my leg cramps & maybe yours, too. I tried calcium, potassium & magnesium (slo mag - time released) in the past Didn't help. I have read before that you should take calcium and magnesium in a 2:1 ratio. I read lately that when you're having leg cramps, you may need to go to a 1:1 ratio. I decided to get a magnesium that wasn't time released. I got the cheap Wal-mart Spring Valley Magnesium. 1 serving (3 tabs) has 400 mg. When I got home I realized I got the one next to it that had zinc in it. 1 serving (3 tabs) 15 mg. I decided to use it anyway since that wasn't much zinc & I probably needed it, too. I had been having them every night for several months. I took 3 before bedtime. No cramps & I slept the best I have in I don't know how long. I have changed to 2 tabs @ bedtime & 2 more in the am. I have muscle pain below left shoulder during day. I am sleeping better & no more cramps. I just started adding calcium lately because I know I need it. I'm 55 & not a milk drinker. It's been over three weeks. Good luck to you.
