Been using the hinge and hold for the last year (watched a Phil Mickelson lesson on Youtube) and been getting some pretty good results. Even managed to chip in a couple of times from the edge of the green. However very recently I have tried out chipping using the much simpler putting stroke method and I reckon the results are slightly better and a little more consistent.
What is your preferred technique for chipping (I refer to bump and run shots not pitching)? |

I've used both, the hinge & the putting stroke, right now I'm using the putting stoke technique... for me it seems to be more consistent... still working on my distances right now. Also, last week I decided to start playing more bump & runs, I always just tried to fly the ball to the hole on my chips & pitches.

Putting stroke for chipping from the fringe or fairway, IF the distance is not that long (say....15 yards or less) AND if it is not uphill. I typically use a pitching wedge or 9 iron for these. Will go with gap wedge, 54* or 60* if I need to get the ball over something, or I need a really soft landing (tight pin placements).
Something like a hinge & hold for all other close-in situations where I'm taking less than 1/2 a swing. Really starting to love my CG15 wedges (54* & 60*) for these shots. |

I try to do this I try to use the same stroke and will pull a different lofted club for distance change needed. |

I use hinge and hold and I make sure I use as least loft as possible to make the shot. I find that the less loft I am able to use the less chance I have for a crap shot. |
