Essentially I have started to suspect that my new pinnacle balls (got a couple of boxes) aren't going as far as my used balls (many brands). It is quite possible though that this is all in my head. So - any reasons this would be true?

I have a fast swing, if that makes any difference.

Sure. It all comes down to ball flight. Overcompressed, undercompressed, spin and dimple pattern will all make ball flight what it is off the tee.
