Fortunately I have never been paired up with anyone to that extreme, I guess there is a reason he was playing alone and would guess he usually does play without any regular playing partners. I like MikeT's idea about just claiming the back needs a quick rest and letting them just play on ahead, I will keep that in mind in case I need it in the future.
well unfortunately its very rarely that you dont have a filled up course on my county courses and espec on the weekends. So ther is no where to go or move on to or play through etc.... You are stuck for the round. I mean thankfully that rare ocsasion when things like this may have happened I have never gotten to the point where I would just have to get forceful and/or really just do something about it other than small words. And most always things are pleasant but none the less it just not good and can ruin your enjoyment for the round.

What a great way to think about it! I think I'm going to try to think about it when I see jerks anywhere, not just on the golf course. Thanks for the great post, Seth.
It has really helped me to not stress the stupid people. Probably one of the single best things anyone has ever said to me.

I was playing in my province championship and played with some complete tools! They cheated as well so that was worse, only cheating themselves though.

You can find idiots or nice guys.....That's how Steele and I met...both playing as singles at our home course....he asked about my staff bag and albatross hat and went home and joined THP that night!

Sounds like the guy was a real jerk. But if you were all strangers, how did you know he was a "rich, dweebie" type? Just curious. Being a jerk certainly is not reserved for people with money, it can be found everywhere!

Hope the majority of your other experiences were/are good.

It happens, I had a guy a few weeks ago that was annoying, he was constantly complaining about the people in front of us, calling them 'hacks.' I actually had to walk away when he said it the one time because he had proceeded to hit the ball backwards once and then take a foot long gash out of the ground on the next. I am no pro but it is very frustrating when you trying to concentrate on your own game and people are annoying or rude.

I have played alone almost exclusively since I started playing again earlier this year because I'm a bit self concious about my hack game. If you don't mind the heat you have a private course in the afternoons here from April until October. Snowbird season is coming up soon and I'll have to start playing with others then. I am very easy going but don't tolerate rudeness or condescension to well. If someone wants to dish out some rudeness, they had better be able to take it in return. Hopefully it won't be that way and I'll meet some cool people and enjoy the game.

Did not at all intend to mean or imply anything bad about people with good money. My apologies if any one took it that way. Certainly happens with anybody of any status.

Thinking back on it some more - This young man just struck me as a the "born with a silver spoon, in daddy's pocket spoiled type". Do not at all mean everyone born wealthy is the same way at all, but he actually really was that "spoiled rich arrogant dweeb" one may usually only refer to in generalization.

While on the phone, Talking loudly about "this golf club and that golf club". "This course better than that one". "Played there the other day", "playing the other one tomorrow", "been there 3 times and don't like it" and etc.. . Thats a big expense if you ask me and must have a ton of time. He just didnt seem to have a grasp of reality as most of us know it. like actually having to worry about work. Also talking purposely loud enough for us all to hear every conversation like a show off. Bragging and commenting about it all and his golf vs others. So in his case I'd say the phrase "arrogant rich, little dweeb" just seem to fit in my description of him. I never quite witnessed this before to that degree I experienced with this fella. And yes for once, someone actually and real truely fit the term.

One of the other golfers told me privately at one point and said something like " you believe this guy" "never met anyone like that".
I remember I was actually hitting well in the long game that day. I was driving well and long and then put a couple long shots (a 5 wood and then a 4 iron) on the green on two holes in a row. it was sweat. But I remember that also my chipping and short pitching were just pathetic as can be. I am rembering this because of what the fella said to me in private after commenting about this dweeb. He said, refering to what this dweeb sad about me. "he can hit the long game but never be any good cant play the short game to save his life" But it was not said in a friendly way but more like a sarcastic snobby way.

Anyway, I can go on but hope that explians my description of him and the terms Iused

In my experience, those who act like they have money, usually don't.

Me and Mward played with a couple of older gents today, and they were two pretty cool dudes. The only complaint I had was one of them liked to talk during your swing. The worst was when he walked up while I was at address and said "There are two options on this hole, a bad shot or a bad shot."

I hit a bad shot.

I have no problem with some laughs at all and in fact like good laughs between the strokes but to do that at address was just very wrong of him as well as talk while your swinging, But with that said and with all due respect, I just have to say "That was pretty funny". Almost like something from a funny movie or something.
