Absolutely it impacts my game. I can get off the tee for the most part and usually feel pretty good about my short irons and wedge play. However, when I am face with that 50-60 yard chip/pitch shot, I fall to pieces. I will shank it, skull it, chunk it but I cannot get it on the green. Then my decent round (for me) is shot and it normally takes me 3-4 holes to get over it.

play one shot at a time and have a great short term memory
Glad there is a quote option, almost forgot what I was going to say.

My confidence can get pretty shaky pretty easily after a string of bad shots or bad hole. But I can also get over-confident after good shots and attempt shots I have no busy even thinking of trying which then leads back to shaky confidence. My never ending cycle.

This a golf issue, confidence can breed good golf and the lack of confidence can stink up a round. The trick is to play one shot at a time and have a great short term memory
I would prefer a terrine short term memory to forget the shanks!!

Yup, confidence sure plays a role in my game. Mostly it's putting, when I start missing a couple 3 footers I get a bit nervous on even shorter putts, and play too much break. I see break that isn't there and it drives me nuts. I've lost a couple decent amateur tournaments because of it. With that being said, I feel like its getting better as I get a little older and realize that I need to stay vigilant on shorter putts, but the thoughts are faintly there. They haunt me lol.

I certainly consider myself a streaky player and confidence is at the center of it. If I hit a few good shots or have a few good holes my confidence is high and I'm feeling and playing well. But after a bad shot, swing, putt or hole my confidence begins to drop and if I don't stop it soon enough I tail spin out. It's mostly mental and it's about creating confidence even if your not feeling it!!!

Confidence is the biggest factor in my game. If I'm feeling good and know I'm hitting the ball well, I will sometimes try more aggressive shots both off the tee and into the greens. However, if I start losing confidence in one part of my game, the rest is sure to follow. In our club championship a few weeks ago, I went in very confident. I was hitting the ball well. However, on the first hole, I missed a 5 foot birdie. I did the same thing on the second. Missed a 2 foot par putt on 3 and another 2 foot bogey on 4. After that, it didn't take long before my round looked like Hiroshima.

Anytime an aspect of my game falters for a few rounds, my confidence goes with it until a good round or range session builds it back up again. I played with a slice/horrendous slice for years before taking lessons and finally seeing what the course is like from the fairway. My confidence improved immensely though sometimes I get a little worried on a dog leg left. Oddly, the same does not go for chipping and putting. If I do poorly, I usually stay confident that if i focus more and pay more attention to the shots I will be ok.

I think confidence can even come into play on certain holes. It gets in your head that you just can't hit certain shots. There is one par 3 at my home course it's 150 yards down hill. I used to par or bogey it every time. This year it's been a mess. I think my average score is probably a 5. I've only hit the green once out of about 40 times. Most times it's hazard, trap or even OB.

So yes, confidence is important. I also think over confidence can be your doom.
