Sometimes just having a single swing thought can change my game. I've been playing really shitty lately and I've lost my enthusiasm for the game. I go to the range to work on things and it just nevre translates to the course.
Yesterday, I was going through the same old-same old, missing greens and making double bogies (I've been driving the ball great, which is very frustrating when I can't hit a green from the middle of the fairway). I was 10 over par after 7 holes and was bemoaning my game, when one of my playing partners told me that he noticed I was shuffling my feet when I tried to hit an iron into the 7th green. So, on the next hole I concentrated on keeping my feet planted until I got through the hitting area and I hit a solid shot 15 feet from the hole. I then went 2 over par for the next 11 holes (with a double bogie thrown in there). It could have been even better, as I power-lipped out two birdie putts. Every shot I hit (Except for one drive that I sliced into a water hazard) was solidly struck and I was not only hitting greens, I was hitting it close. Now I can't wait to get back on the course, when yesterday I was almost dreading it. |

I couldn't figure out why all my irons were ten or more yards less in distance. I moved about an inch or two closer to the ball and now i have the distance back. The funny thing is, even though I was shorter on my shots, they were right at the pin, I lost that when I moved closer to the ball. So I took a little stronger grip, and now my irons are longer and straighter...until the next game.

I have a routine for every shot
1) check grip, 3 knuckles showing on each hand 2) ensure knees aren't bowed out or lean in 3) full shoulder turn 4) Lock left leg on the follow through and ensure right knee touches left (I'm a righty) 5) keep club moving towards the ball and try to put the shaft on my back |
