Swing improvements after 1 year of practice.

Funny thing happened today.

After recently posting details from session on the Bridgestone launch monitor I remembered that about 15 months ago when I started getting serious about golf again I got a driver fitting done at GolfSmith. I dug out the paperwork to compare numbers.

Averages from 15 months ago:

Clubhead speed = 97 mph
Ball Speed = 130 mph
Backspin = 4500 rpm

Wow, what a big difference, how far has your handicap come down since then.

from 18 to 12. With the past few weeks I am pretty close to getting to 10 I think.

Very interesting numbers, congrats on the huge improvement.

RooldpalApata 08-26-2012 02:32 AM

Thanks. The improvement now is being focused mostly on the game from 150 yards in and short game. I suspect solid improvement there will be an even bigger payoff.

I think you're right about that.

Congrats on the numbers....I so need to get something like this done for my game!

Did you have any instruction during this year RR, or did you do this through books and videos? That is a great increase in driver numbers. Congrats.

Im going out on a limb and guessing that you have a REALLY low ball flight? 1900 spin is very low.

BalaGire 08-26-2012 05:28 AM

Wow that sure is a lot of improvement. Nice going dude!

IodinkBoilk 08-26-2012 08:13 PM

110mph? you must hit the ball a mile! with that low spin, if you want with a higher lofted driver, you'd be throwing knuckleballs out there for days.

chppjdf 08-26-2012 08:31 PM

Excellent work!! I'm sure with that dedication, you'll achieve your goals.

creewespock 08-27-2012 12:23 AM

man those are great numbers! keep up the good work! I have seen similar results recently, me being 15 and growing all the time I got my ss from 83 in december, to to 89 in april and right now I am around 100. So I guess practice does help. I agree that you should get a high lofted driver and just bash them as hard as you can.

krek-sikUp 08-27-2012 02:14 AM

1900 is low. I think mine is 3100-3200, and I had to up the loft on my driver just to keep it in the air. Still, sounds like you've really polished your swing. Good job!

Nice numbers. I am just focusing on hitting constantly sweet spots, as I practice. I hope I can see some improvement, as my body gets use to the swing, and get bit more flexible.

With the current shaft on my FIT, yes the ball flight is low but not as much as the spin number would lead you to believe. The Fujikura Speeder 6.2 Tour Spec is a low launch, low spin shaft. The tourney I played today I could only hit driver 3 times and each were carries of about 270+.

From what I've been told, 2200-2400 is ideal. I dunno, I hit the driver well enough. :)

Curious. With the low spin, I assume roll out is there, how are you measuring carry on the course?

I always wondered how people did this on the course as well I'm curious to the answer.

Well today I measured it by knowing that I had 260 to carry a bunker off the first tee and landed 10 yards over it. :) Roll out was about 10 yards on a fairly soft fairway.

Sometimes I wish my eyes still worked like that I guess. Then again, I wish to have a lot of the things I read on THP.
