Default Playing your best round of golf
Yesterday I played the best round of golf I have ever played, I shot a 74. Wow. Never would have thought I could really play a solid 18 holes of golf and I finally did it! I was a little worried in the first couple of holes but I pulled it together and played a solid 38 - 36.

The only thing that kinda puts a damper on things was that I had 32 putts for the round, which is good and bad. Good because I must have hit a lot of greens and bad because I didn't make enough putts to score. I can count at least 3 putts that I missed inside if 8 feet for birdie, so I know there is more out there.

So here is why I am starting this thread, while I was out there I had a completely clear head all 18 holes and just focused on one shot at a time. I never got rattled over any putt once I settled down and it was just a lot of fun. So let's hear how you were feeling during your best round ever. Did you just know it was gonna be a great day? Did it click after a few holes? Or did you just let it happen and go with the flow.

Seriously. Tappin'.

Best round ever for me, I had music in my head. Was humming things between shafts and just feeling generally connected to the round.

Fantastic 74 man!! 32 putts means room for improvement!!

I shot a 79 Tuesday in the qualifier for a tournament. It wasn't my best score ever, but the best round I've ever played as far a s ball striking and putting. I had a quad and a double bogey back to back on the front, but grinded a 40 on the front, 39 on the back. I was pretty happy with that score all things considered. Congrats on the 74 though!

congrats on the awesome 74.

My 78 a few weeks ago was pretty similar, average start and then boom everything started to go my way

Its why I sometimes like playing solo in the evening, course is empty, no one out there....no distractions helps keep head clear and I just went about my business

My best round ever was last week and for me the difference was the flat stick. I rolled every put with confidence and thought I could hole every putt, no matter where it lied on the putting surface. This mentality left my second putt close almost every time. I feel like some rounds I am trying to hard to play it safe or leave it close and it ends up being to tentative. Confidence and having a good time are the keys to all of my better rounds. Hats of to your 74, one day I hope to put up scores that low.

My great rounds came this year in our city tournament. I'd spent a week preparing for it, and putting together a gameplan that would take as much risk out of my shots as possible. So when it happened, it happened because I had prepared. The key though was focusing on one shot at a time and not on my total score. Every time I thought about the final score, I ended up getting a double bogey. So I guess you could say it just 'clicked' for me.

74 is one heck of a round! I have to agree with your assesment of having a clear head leading to a good round. Mental distractions are no good on the course. Being calm and collected on the tee of hole 1 through the last putt on 18 makes, not just for an enjoyable round, but usually a lower score, for me anyways.

keeping a positive frame of mind and going hole by hole is the best way to keep 'in it'. remember, there are 18 holes, PLENTY of time to bring it back...awesome shooting!

I actually called it the day before in the weather thread I think. Said it was going to be a good day for a personal best and went out and got it done. That was my 82, which beat my previous best by one. I didn't call my 79 a month and a half later!

84 on Tuesday with not much wind. Should be a good day for a personal best.

haven't been able to keep it together for a whole 18 holes for some reason. have shot 79 however has included at least one double and a few bogeys i shouldn't have given up. could be better. still working on maintaining focus, always a few errant drives and easy missed putts here and there.

Well, my best round started with a par, or more precisely a 25 foot par save. A good putt early can make some stuff happen, and the chip eagle birdie that followed was nice. Then I just grinded for the next five trying to not leak it all away and with birdie on nine still only shot a 35 out. Then birdie, birdie on 10 and 11, with one more coming in on 14 with all pars amd I shoot 68. Still can't quite believe that actually happened. It was like playing tiger woods golf, only it happening outside. Only thing I was thinking about to be honest was making every putt, taking just a little more time than usual and not caring about results. I didn't know how far under I was until 17, and promptly fired my tee shot on 18 right in the drink. Managed a great third shot from 218 out to 20 feet and two putted for par. Basically, give into your practice and take dead aim.

Good round, and just as a FYI and to ease your concerns, there are always going to be shots left out there. It's very rare for anyone to have a round where they feel everything went their way and all the putts dropped.

My best round (73) was also shot with a song running through my head the whole round, some pop song that was on the radio when I got out of the car. Funny thing though, the round started bogey, bogey. So now, if I start with a bogey I don't worry about it.

When I shot my best round(par- 72) it was in a "frozen friday" thing that the DSGA puts on. So it was a competition basically so I was on my toes the whole round trying to beat the other two guys I was with so it kept me focused the whole round.

My best round was an 83 that I just didn't worry about what I was shooting or my score on a hole, the one hole I really though I just need to par this and I'll have par'd 6 holes in a row! I ended up 4 putting. Was able to put that out of my head and finish the round solid. Ended up with 32 putts which is my best putting round ever as well, only 27% greens so lots of improvement to be made on those 2 fronts.

My best round was a 69, I honestly wasn't even thinking about golf during the round. Some of my best rounds of golf have come when I don't even think about golf during the round.
