Default 2010 British Open
Very nice opening round of 66 for Daly. As I type this he's tied for first. Looks like the weather is good so far, so there may be some good scores today.

Yeah, I like to be able to wake up and watch a sporting event. Even if it is golf.

I liked the end of a Yahoo! article I just read on his score talking about how the weather is going to turn and hoping his rain gear has a floral pattern.

This. Except that for me it would read, "Even if it is soccer". As was the case last month.

It is because only people who haven't been absolved of their sins end up there.

They were sure putting up some scores this morning. I'm guessing these scores will go well backwards by the end of the open.

Tiger w/ 6 Birds and one bogey. He feels right at home at St Andrews. From what I read the weather was good for the early birds, but could get worse as the day goes on.

Yeah, the scores will go down. 1 or 2 under will probably win it.

Can anybody fill me in on what the deal is with the hole where they have to drive the ball over a building? I've been trying to watch for it to see what hole it is because I didn't catch it earlier when I saw it. Just seems very bizarre if I was seeing it correctly.

The wind is picking up now so the early guys definitely got a big advantage. Seems like Tiger had some poor luck in weather draws last year at the Open (and maybe the US Open as well). Looks like today may have helped balance that out.

Really? With all of these guys in the -4 through -9 range, I'd think at least a couple of them should be able to hold around par over the next three rounds and turn in a winner around -5/-6. Of course it depends a lot on exactly how bad or good the weather gets the rest of the weekend.

#17 I believe.

It is a shortcut. You don't technically have to go that way, but guys this good will do it every time.

The "Road Hole"
That is correct. I always play it that way on my Jack Nicklaus Video game.
http://www.caddiegolftours.com/oldco...s/17throad.htm

It is a long Par 4 and the tee shot has you driving over replicas of the dark green "drying sheds" that jut out from the famous Old Course Hotel & Golf Spa. Your caddie will point out a line, dependant on your shape of shot, over the advertisement for the hotel using one of the letters from the hotel logo or perhaps a safer line towards the church spire that points prominently above the left side of the green sheds.
The attacking line from the tee is to take the ball on the last letters of the word "HOTEL" from the logo or even right of this if you have a big drive. With a carry of 180 - 220 yards, depending on your bravery, the desired landing area is on the right side of the fairway. This does bring into play the Out of Bounds wall that separates the green shed, the hotel garden and the Jigger Inn Pub from the fairway, but your aggressive play will reward you with a simpler approach shot to the raised, thin sliver of a green that has the protection of the Road bunker at the front left and the notorious road behind it. A tough decision is required. It is a blind tee shot and you are aiming at an old green wooden building. This can be a little disconcerting for the first time player. Trust your swing?!

Yeah, I finally found it. I would knock the shit out of that hotel. Of course, in reality I'd probably be playing the senior tees so I'm guessing the building wouldn't really come into play from there. Or I might just pull out my potato launcher and shoot the ball over the hotel.
