Observations of the PGA:

Rory McIlroy is the real deal. I predict at least double digit Majors.

All the sand at Kiawah was declared “through the green” so that there were no “bunkers”.

Through theGreen: "Through the green" is the whole area of the course except:

a. The teeing ground and putting green of the hole being played; and
b. All hazards on the course.

I didn’t know they ruled that until I saw Rory take practice swings in the greenside bunker on 16 yesterday. They had rakes in some areas as a courtesy, but raking them was not required. The players were allowed to test the sand and take practice swings. I don’t know if that is always the rule there, but the PGA decided to do it that way for the tournament so that there was no confusion, like at Whistling Straits.

Tiger Woods did not break par in any of the eight weekend rounds he played in the 2012 Majors.

Gary McCord and Jim Nance are tiresome. Feherty is pretty funny on occasion, but his golf commentary is not to be taken seriously. I like Faldo and Kostis.

The rule surrounding Pettersson’s 2-stroke penalty is absurd. He even asked the rules official if he could touch the grass during his swing and he was told yes, as long as he didn’t ground his club. He touched a leaf on the way back with his club and it was deemed that he moved a loose impediment. I don’t think he was catching Rory, but that ruling cost him about a half million in prize money.

McIlroy said he wore the redshirt on purpose to make a statement of sorts, but that he would not have worn it if he played with Tiger.

One guy asked McIlroy to be a perfectionist for a minute and tell him anything about his game that could have been better. Rory said, “Nothing. It was all good”. Is that cocky or confident?

What’s with that trophy? I think McIlroy pulled a groin trying to pick it up.

Some of these records they come up with are ridiculous. Second youngest to do this, fourth youngest to do that. Whatever. Just win baby, and it looks like that is Rory’s intent.

I'm super bummed that I didn't get to catch much of this tourney.

But I did catch that sand rule while watching on Thursday online. Pretty interesting. They referenced the situation from last year's event where one of the golfers got a penalty from grounding his club in the sand....almost as if that situation factored into the rule for this week's sand.

Sand at Kiawah hasn't been a hazard since the beginning, even when they played the Ryder Cup there years back.

That's interesting. I wonder why that is the case.

Only for PGA events.. The bunkers that are built with grass surrounds are regular hazards for you and me by local rules. The PGA changed it for their events to avoid confusion. They should have done the same at Whistling Straits.

I thought it was fabulous. I couldn't believe how a 23 year old kid could manage his game like that on a Major Sunday. He had plenty of opportunities to drop shots all day. He didn't get overly aggressive, he took advantage on the par 5's and he didn't try to force the issue when he hit a poor shot. He's the real deal.

I don't know but one of the announcers brought it up since people thought it might be related to what happened to Dustin Johnson, and said it isn't. He said they had the same rules in the Ryder Cup right after the course opened (first big event on the course I think).

For those interested, the PGA Championship website has video of the featured group of Woods, Bradley and Kaymar.

Woods even, Kaymar struggling, Bradley with a great start at -2.

I will try to sneak in some of this this w/e among my Olympics watching. PGA has sort of become a lesser Major espcially w/ the rise of "The Players".
I need a great tourney from Tiger as I used on of my last two fantasy plays on him. Need to stay ahead of ill and Game, there.
