Wow. The OP sounds exactly like me. Or something I'd write. Even down to what he shoots.

In my experience the right equipment for my game has changed it drastically, I started scoring low 90s coming from 100-130 when I bought the right equipment for my game. I currently have all 2011-2012 equipment in my bag and sure it hasn't made my game perfect because that's more of an indian/arrow/invertd cone technology issue but I know m equipment will perform as expected. I love to buy equipment all the time and I shouldn't' but I do

Now I must admit that the ATV wedge has in fact changed my short game because I can do all the shots I need with one wedge effectively
Not meaning to go off topic or hijack this thread, but I was just wondering what degrees is your ATV wedge?

I'm definitely with you GS. I'm a decent golfer but love new equipment. 13 out of my 14 clubs this year are new (Cleveland Mashie M4 is the lone survivor from last year). I do think having the right equipment has helped me improve a little. I also know I'd love some THP demo days and tour van events. Saw the THP tour van was coming up in a month but I'll be away on vacation that weekend.

The way I see it, it's your money that you're spending. If it makes you happy buying new stuff, by all means, go for it. There's nothing wrong with it.
Example, I just bought a new Mashie M4 on Monday. I want to buy a different one now. It's been 2 days. Yikes.

Sounds like me. I catch so much hell from my dad for my love of equipment yet not getting any better stroke wise.

I am by no means a scratch golfer. On any given day, I'll shoot between 85-90. Your average bogey golfer. But, despite the fact that I know new equipment won't change my game, I have a love for always trying the latest and greatest that the OEM's have to offer and the different technology and philosophies among them.

My reason for posting is that recently my golfing buddies have criticized me for buying new clubs despite my game remaining the same. My answer to them was that I don't buy the clubs to improve my game but I buy them because I truly do love golf equipment. I love trying the latest and greatest technology first-hand rather than just reading about it.

So, my question to you all is my buying new equipment just a waste of money since it doesn't significantly improve my game? Anyone else an average golfer with a love of equipment?
I buy equipment because for me, a large part of my love of golf is the love of the equipment. A new year brings shiny new toys that I want to try. Nothing wrong with buying stuff as long as you can afford it

I just sell my old clubs to my friends cheap. Now they encourage me to buy new stuff.

Great post! I think you've struck a note with anyone that's on a golf forum. It's part of the passion that we all share for the game. I guess it's kind of like being a collector or just really being into a particular hobby. Some guys will spend money on cars, bikes, model trains etc.............we choose to spend our hard earned cash on golf equipment.

But i do think that finding the right NEW equipment will make a massive difference to your game. It's definitely happened for me.

I play with a group of guys that buy the latest and greatest stuff out but I have never caught that bug. I have 10yr old irons and 5 yr old woods when I try most new stuff against mine I get no advantage. I would rather keep my money and join a club rather than buy clubs I guess. But like guys said earlier whatever makes each person enjoy the game is great I think.
