Default Freeze Up
Kuddos the MC players and being able to tee off with crowd. In my round on Tuesday, I hit a nice drive and was about 140 out and there was a guy cutting grass. He pulls over to the side and cuts the tractor off and watches. And what does this old boy do......top the ball and it goes about 20 yards. Happens every time!! Any boddy else freeze up like this?

sometimes that happens to me. usually it's just because i try to rip it 'cause i want to show off a bit, but when i don't try to do that and just stay cool and do my thing, usually not too bad. although, when i play with people like family and friends, i tend to play a bit worse than when i'm by myself or with people i don't know. not sure why, but i just do.

Used to do all of the above. How to fix it? Play in tournaments! Even one-day-not-so-big-deal tournaments. After a few of those, all that "pressure" to perform goes away!

i've played in my fair share of tournaments (school league, about 15 schools). most of the time i'm able to keep cool because i've made friends with the people i play with, but there's always that person (or people) that i have to play with that are just total jerks and try to screw with me.. this is when i play my worst..

Well, I can't say I have that happen to me but I have a buddy that gets rattled every time. You honestly want to know a good thing to do to help with that: make HOTD videos for the forum.

I used to have the problem, especially on the first tee with other groups watching, even from a distance.Over time however ,I have figured out that a lot of the other players are at least as bad or not much better than I am ,so I just tee it up and ignore them.I am not an especially long hitter so I just try to keep it in play when other people are watching.

I'm not too bad with people watching me, but if they are off to one side where I could possibly hit them if I flubbed it, I usually overcompensate and go way in the other direction.

Same with me. Or if I'm not sure if a group is quite within my range or not and I wait for them I usually end up flubbing my shot. Of course if I don't wait I'd probably end up right in the middle of the group

I played with a guy late last week and on the first tee he pulled it and smoked the maintenance cart with two workers in it. They looked for his ball and gave him a PROV1. Now I'm not saying Tedfroop is erratic off the tee but seeing that calmed my nerves.

As soon as someone lets me ahead of them I start shanking balls like it's my job.

Having a solid routine is key. If you can do it solo, just stick to that routine every time so that it's your safe haven. You step into that routine and it should feel as normal to you as getting ready for work. Then just pull the trigger.

Anytime I'm playing from another fairway and I'm rushing to not hold up the group on that tee it's pretty much a guaranteed shank. Divot goes further than the ball and I'm surrounded in a cloud of grass and dirt. A packed first tee box can be tough too.
