Its in the grip....

Bring your right more over your left hand and "tighten" the grip... it will feel awkward at first and it will need some range practice but I am willing to guarantee this will eliminate your problem...

Most wild shaped shots with woods and the driver can be stopped by "loosening" or "tightening" your grip as it will also slightly affect your takeback..

Thats what offset is for. To help the right-to-left..

Another non-hooking hybrid is the Nike VR_S or VR_S Tour. I am a hooker when I miss and The regular VR_S does just fine. Very square setup (I think it is actually 1* open), great look and feel, great ball flight and distance. I hit everything at a demo day and it was by far the clear winner for me. Easy to hit straight or turn left or right.

How to stop...

Hooking with offset club?
I just purchased a Mashie M4 and I like it for the most part but it's too offset. Out of 7 shots I took with it, 6 hooked about 20-30 yards.
Is there a technique to stop hooking?

I have no help for you here, for me it is more of a mental thing than anything I believe. I can't look down at a hybrid with that much offset or I will immediately think hook. I don't know if that is your problem or not, but that is my experience with them

Well, my 910H is amazing. It's the most consistent club in my back. Straight as an arrow but I still can shape shots. This M4... not so much.

I had to get rid of my much loved Mashie for this and this alone, there was too much offset for my game and I couldn't stope hooking the crap out of it. . .I'm not too sure what opening the face or even putting a little lead tape on the toe would do though

I can tell you though that this is well documented on the 2011 Mashies

Yeah, I might have to trade it in. How's the Rescue?

propolo 07-31-2012 09:56 PM

Another thing to do is to trade in or sell the M4 and get the Mashie tour, a few of the cleveland Morgan Cup staffers recommended me to do that, unfortunately I had already walked out of the store with the R11 rescue-best club in my bag at the moment, and I got it for $80 after trading in some ol junk I had

Check your ball position. I've hooked clubs having them too far forward in stance.

That normally causes a pull or pull hook though, I think the issue is too much offset, it's well documented in the normal Mashie line.

Ilaubuas 07-31-2012 10:01 PM

Anytime I notice myself hooking a ball with a club (offset or not), I pay close attention to where I have it positioned in my stance. I have this problem with my hybrid from time to time and just have to remind my self to play it a little further back in my stance. My hooking problems arise from getting my hands turned over just a touch before I hit the ball. If I play it back a little, they don't have time to get turned over as far and I hit it straighter.

I absolutely love it, I get a higher ball flight but it's not ridiculously high. The head is workable and has less offset and hey the white looks great in the rough. I hit it off the tee, from the deck, around the green. . .it's my favorite club in the bag

reervieltnope 07-31-2012 10:04 PM

Yeah most of my shots are in the middle of my stance. Only my driver is a little forward.

Do you have the 2011 Mashie or this year's Mashie, also known as the Mashie+?

In terms of technique, don't come as hard from the inside, try to feel like you're going to hit a slice to take away the hook.

I know this will help as I have been a hooker all my life. I have the Mashie M2 in my bag now and when I am mindful of the correct ball position for me (being a born hooker), my shots are much straighter and I have even hit a few fades.

It's a 2011 Mashie.
I have the Mashie + in 15.5 degree and that thing is great.

Honestly, if you are consistently hooking it, it might be time to take it out of the bag. I have been having the same problem with it for probably a year now. Finally made the switch to Callaway Razr X HL's and love them. The offset really killed me.

I have the Mashie+ hybrids and don't have big problems with hooking them. Considering that a hook is my miss, that's a good thing. I would bench the M4 and try to pick up one of the Mashie+ M4 hybrids if you want to stay with the Cleveland line. You could also get another 910H, and the Rescue 11 is pretty neutral as well.

Jalieteplalry 07-31-2012 10:50 PM

On your takeaway, stop the club about halfway and see where the toe of the club is pointing, it should be pointing to the sky, if it is not, take a look at how you are taking away the club, you want to take away the club so that the logo on your glove is pointing outwards or up to the sky as well.. See if that works. You could just be taking the club away very closed.
