Animals you have hit or killed with a golf ball..

This hasn't happened in quite awhile but I was wondering who else might have a story to tell.

It was during the fall season and I was on the tee. The left side of the fairway was tree lined. I totally smoked a little off-line pulled drive into one of the trees about 200 out and the next thing I know I see my ball and a bird fall to the ground. Once I got to the bird, I gave it a once over. The ball had hit the bird squarely on the right side of the face between the beak and eye. Well, what was left of the eye. The poor thing had died instantly though. When it hit the ground, it didn't flop or convulse. It really couldn't have been a more perfect shot to the face. I felt bad but I did walk away with a birdie in some fashion.

Lets hear yours....

I've decimated the worm population many times around here. Not so much anymore, but there was a time, worms would burn.

Other that, I hit a squirrel once. Pretty positive he moved that dang tree of his in my way.

I hit a robin once, years ago. It was a great drive and that sucker cost me 50 yards or more. It flew straight across the fw and I nailed it right in the chest, one of the few times I hit the fw in my life, lol.

Many people on here live in Florida and know how much damage a Sand Hill Crane can do to the yard, golf course , green, yet they are protected. I was playing The Royal St Cloud golf links a few years ago and was looking at my second shot on a par 5 and there was this crane walking across the slight ridge in the fairway about 75 yds ahead, uphill. I thought if I hit right over that bird my next shot would be perfect, well crack, great contact and bam, down went that bird. I didn't kill it but I am pretty sure it never flew again. and the sight of that big bird floping and squaking in the fairway was bad, I just knew I was going to jail until it got up and floped away.

geese are a big problem here on courses. Last fall I hit a line drive and nailed one in the chest. Man, you want to talk about a mad crazy bird!

Eagevawax 06-15-2011 03:11 AM

I'm super happy to report I have never killed anything on the course.

I've hit birds, both in trees and in mid flight, nailed a turtle crossing the fairway once too...it was a perfect high fade and came down right on top of this big turtle!!! The ball jumped forward and I got about 15 extra yards out of it.

I killed a bird once years ago at the course Ole Gray and KellyBo are members of. What is now the driving range was the 9th hole at that time and a par 5. After the tee shot, I hit a 5 wood tracking straight up the middle of the fairway. I did not know that a bird was sitting on the ground until my ball hit it and the ball went one way and the bird the other. It was dead on impact and it cost me making the green in 2. It actually made me feel really bad to have killed the bird.

surprisingly I have not killed anything (that I'm aware of)

I ate a couple of thousand gnats the last time I played in summer in Cordele.

I just kill bogies with my awesome drag putting.

Twice. I have hit a goose that was walking across the fairway and hit a deer standing about 75 yards in front of the tee box. Can report that neither died instantly. The goose hobbled around for a while. The deer basically just ran away

God I hate them gnats!

I hit a pretty big bird in Orlando in the chest. It was a skulled wedge so it didn't have a ton of heat on it, just made a thud sound and the bird shook it off.

Playing out at Lake Las Vegas we hit our drives to a blind fairway...come over the hill and a huge big horn sheep was standing about 10 yds from my ball. We were caught off guard b/c wtf is a big horn sheep doing in the fairway...he stared us down for about 5 mins and finally moved to the rough and I scurried out to my ball and hit it real quick. Them things are pretty impressive lol.

Hitting a wedge into a short par 4, there was a Grackle (actually several) poking the ground for worms or bugs. My shot hit one of them on the back of the head and drove his little beak deep into the green. a couple of seconds later he staggered u and flew away.

I have not that I know about.

Arkadiyas 06-15-2011 07:45 AM

I haven't killed anything that I know of on the course... yet. Like Ron mentioned, there are way too many geese on courses around here. SUX!

Stovegeothnon 06-15-2011 08:23 AM

I hit a goose last year. It was on a par 5 and I was hitting my second shot. Hit a low screaming 3W and the flock of geese flew away, but one dropped. Not sure exactly where I hit it, but a guy we got paired up with "took care of it", as it was still alive and suffering. I felt so bad, but what can you do?

OMG don't even get me started on the Georgia gnats. Just a few miles south of Warner Robins is the 'gnat line'. It's AWFUL!
This last weekend in Hawkinsville, I almost lost my mind because I just couldn't focus on a swing with them buzzing in my ears and flying up my nose. They are immune to OFF, too. I was told to put dryer sheets in my hat next time. Weird.

kranskregyan 06-15-2011 02:27 PM

I hit a bird at the Outing. I wish I would have killed it. I hate those things.

forotis 06-15-2011 04:40 PM

I haven't but I witnessed a buddy of mine get a jack Rabbit. Big slice drive into the mesquite, right into the bunnies head. Instant kill.
