I've played The Ranch a number of times. It's a fun course but it can also be a little silly. As someone mentioned, it's a "carts only" course. The ride from one hole to the next in a couple of cases is nearly a 1/4 mile. If you play it smart and know the course, the 150+ slope rating isn't quite that intimidating. It's fun to bring people there for the first time.

Default The Ranch Golf Club - San Jose, CA
I did a search in the Course Reviews forum and couldn't find anything but I was wondering if anyone has played this course and what you think? I am headed there on Thursday and I've heard horror stories about the place. Doesn't look real long, just have to stay straight and plod along....

This course is hard. Especially the first time you play there. Golfnow has excellent deals there. Lots of slope changes, hitting uphill and downhill 100+ yards. Lots of hitting over o.b. canyons. Be prepared to lose some balls unless you can drive the ball consistently accurate and control the carry and release distance well. One particular hole requires you to carry 220-230 yards to a 90 degree fairway that's only about 20 yards wide, if it rolls too far it's a lost ball. It's a beautiful course that's very well kept though. Just difficult. Good luck!

Have fun!!!!!

That course is crazy! I played it a few years ago and it was a trip: up and down hills and over canyons and wild slopes in the greens. The only thing it is missing is the clown's mouth and windmill (one hole has a bunker in the green), but I still am glad I played it. Great views and #10 overlooks 101 all I wanted to do at the time was get back on the road and head home. I'd recommend it...once, or maybe twice if you have an out of town friend in town and you are pissed at him

Here are a couple pictures that my group took the day we played. **I did not personally take these

Oh and I forgot, it is the course with the longest ride from green to tee box that I have ever played LOL. #11 to #12 (I think) took an eternity

Yup! Some of those hillside layout courses drive me NUTS.

Sorry for the delay, just got back from being out of town, we went and played and actually enjoyed the course quite a bit. It is definitely challenging but it was fun because it was like no other course I've ever played because of the need to carry OB terrain on nearly every tee shot and approach shot into the greens. I was able to keep my score just over 100 and on this course I was happy with that. The views were spectacular and I would definitely go back and play it again. One thing that made it challenging was that with the lay out of some of the fairways and tee boxes you can not see exactly where you need to aim and if you have no course knowledge a yardage book is a must because there are no other hole/course maps anywhere once you are out on the course. As I said before the course is fun and offers challenges that most courses do not and the facilities are excellent; I would recommend playing The Ranch to anyone who hasn't been there before.
