I think the biggest reason they do it is so they can watch the thing at home later and get their moment of fame when they hear themselves on TV.

That's nothing compared to the fame of being that guy who got kicked in the head until he had to be life-flighted off the course in a helicopter on live TV! Plus the network gets the ratings. It's a win-win really.

In all seriousness though...it's sheer stupidity and as a newcomer to golf, I've never understood why it still happens. It seems like either the golf course security, or another fan (or group of fans) would have made an example of these people already. It makes golf fans look like douchebags...

when people know they can get under your skin some will actually do it,I mean do you guys think they believe someone is gonna hole a 600 yard shot?but they know they are annoying the heck out of people so they do it
Might be true... but in 30 years of playing this game, I can seriously count the number of asshats that I've encountered with one hand. Kind of grew up loving the game in a different era where civility and decorum are both an important element to the game. Maybe these people are not serious gofers and just casual observers to the golf; out for an "event" much like prize fighting etc....

I just think it's silly. Doesn't really bother me. I mean, who does it really harm? I dunno, I just don't see the big deal of it. Yeah it's old, but so what. They're enjoying being there watching golf.

My buddy is a fan of Ryo Ishikawa and followed him around for few holes on Thursday. In what he thought was friendly encouragement, he was told by a USGA rep that he needed to knock it off. So they are certainly monitoring and addressing the situation.

He was a get in the hole idiot? I'd recommend getting a new buddy.

I think it's some drunk po dunk punk who has been sipping too much corn whiskey and needs to be thrown in the outhouse hole. Then he can yell all he wants, "Get me out of the hole"!

Just posted about this in the Rant thread. My problem is the new catch phrase that guy now yells...Light the Candle. C'mon seriously.

TapAhoy!

I think thats it exactly. If the broadcaster started to cut it out of the broadcast it would likely stop fairly quickly.

Or maybe we all need to complain to the broadcasters. They take the $$ they make pretty seriously.
