Digger Vs Sweeper Who hits it higher

all things equal and a perfect strike, who hit's the ball higher?

wonceinee 04-05-2012 04:17 PM

Well on a perfect strike I would say a digger, because of how steep they are and due to more spin imparted on the ball. Then again, there are tons of factors to influence this either way.

I agree with Thainer...

awagsFare 04-05-2012 04:23 PM

It depends on the golfer, I know sweepers that hit the ball sky high and I know diggers that hit low liners. In theroy the digger hits it higher but again there are so many more factors that influence trajectory other than angle of impact.

Agree with this ^^^

I hit the ball really high compared to most of the people I play with, and seldom take huge divots. But one of the lowest hitters I play with on a regular basis is a sweeper that never takes a divot. Just his style of swing.

enfoires 04-05-2012 04:41 PM

it depends on ball position for me. I can sweep it WAY high if I play it off my front foot but not so much off my back foot. I have to dig it then.

Another +1 for Tadashi70. lol

grattperret 04-05-2012 06:13 PM

Wouldn't it be more about the hand position at impact? I believe that the further forward the hands, the lower the trajectory. I could be wrong.

wonceinee 04-05-2012 06:14 PM

You guys suck! I said the same thing 3 posts earlier!!! lol

But you're not tadashi! hehehe

And yes you did, and I agree with you Junior.

Height is based on the D plane which is factored by face angle and swing path. So if the d plane is the same for a digger and sweeper you'll get same trajectory.

The answer to who hits it the highest... Is... Me. ;)

Blellurgews 04-06-2012 01:17 AM

I dig and hit the ball pretty low. I don't want the wind blowing my shots all over the place like it does Belbin's. I think it even blows his chips and putts around.

I'm a digger and I hit the ball very high because of the angle of attack. So I agree with Thainer21

..if you're hands aren't head of the ball at impact, you're doing it wrong. That said, when it is exageratted, it does deloft the club. I hit the ball very high and always have my hands ahead of the ball at impact. Trajectory is a product of many different factors.

Tadashi nailed it above, imo. Couldn't have said it any better.

awagsFare 04-06-2012 01:28 AM

In thainers defense he did say it earlier. I responded without reading his post. +1 to Thainer

Buildityrit 04-06-2012 06:30 AM

Ignoring exceptions,,,,, as a general rule a digger will hit it higher.

AdSuiteAdobe 05-05-2012 08:15 AM

With my old set of irons I was really sweeping the ball and since I changed sets to one that was 1/4" shorter I've been digging it a lot more. But I noticed that I still hit the ball about the same height. Maybe a little bit higher with the new clubs but really not much difference
