Default tempo and core strength
This is for the long hitters out there. Or at least long and straight/fairly straight. I think everyone knows that the harder you swing, the more you'll tense up, and that leads to bad contact and less distance. Would you guys say that the key to distance is good tempo and good core strength? I tend to tense up when I have to hit over a bunker, or reach a green in 2 on a par 5, or whatever it is, and I end up hitting it shorter. What're your thoughts?

from the physical stand point core stregnth is important for the swing, but it also aids in overall athletic performance as it helps with balance, posture, and stability. good tempo is always important for a swing and flexibility is also very important. however, the tense feeling is physical response to a stressful situation. by being in the situations like hitting over a bunker or trying to to reach a par 5 in you put more pressure on yourself to hit the correct shot. this is what a preshot routine is for. it helps you to clear your mind and focus on the shot and not the conditions you are in. it helps you approach every shot the same way every time. also, it helps to try and give each shot the same relative importance/intensity and accept the outcome whatever that may be.
