Default Number of Putts
What is a good number of putts to have per round? I know this could all depend on how difficult the greens are, but on average what is a good number to have? I had 39 putts today on aerated greens I felt like that was a good number.

I would take 31 on average. 27 or 28 is great and 35 up is bad news in my mind.

Tour averages are 28-29 I think. I think 28 putts was my best. I like to stay under 35 but I've quit counting lately.

I think 31 for amatuer golfers is a pretty good number but less is always better when it comes to putts. I have averaged 30.60 putts per round based on my last 20 rounds. Looking to drop a few strokes once I have my new SeeMore putter.

If you consistently hit 36 putts that is even par when it comes to scoring. That is a very realistic and attainable goal for every golfer. If everyone shot 36 per 18 scoring would improve for sure.

My goal every round is to have 31 putts or less. If I can do that, I'm scoring well. I had far too many putts today (36) and I hit 11 greens in regulation. That's piss poor.

If I can come in with zero three-putts and at least a one-putt here or there I'm happy. Last round I had 32 putts, the round before that was 35. I'm going to keep putter track this year and see if I can get it down to 31-32 per round.

I shoot for 32 or below. Today was 31 and yesterday 30, but keep in mind that the numbers can be very misleading. On a day that I'm hitting greens my putts will likely be in the 32 to 34 range, or higher. Missing the greens can mean a lot of one putts if you can chip it close like I did yesterday.

Exactly duey. Total putts is nothing more than a number that in and of itself means nothing (unless that number is 50! haha). Chipping, hitting greens, and other factors contribute to your putting total.

My ideal situation is no more than 2 putts per, so 36. Some days it's more some days it's less, just depends on what is working in my game.

I don't even count. The only number I track is my score, and I lose count of it sometimes. It gets a little fuzzy after 7.

I had three, three putts today and I would normally be mad but all three bounced right at the end because the greens had just been aerated so I did not worry about it. I normally am happy if I can two putt seeing how I normally do not chip it close. Chipping is what I really am working at. Thanks for the info guys.

I want to have zero 3 putts, but I only count putts on greens in regulation. If its not a GIR then you are usually chipping it close (hopefully) and thats no reflection on your putting.

I typically average 35 putts/ round with a low of 30. That was a good day where approach shots were all tight to the pin.

Yesterday is a great example of this. On the front nine I had 6 one putts and 3 two putts for 12 total. I only hit 3 GIR with the high winds, but was a chipping fool. The back nine found me a little better at handling the winds and I started hitting greens, but ended up with 3 one putts, 3 two putts and 3 three putts, lol. Score was 40/45, so some days pay to miss the green if you are going to be a long way away, but can chip close.
