Not much of a story, but I played with a guy who shot 120 who 'usually shoots in the mid 80's'. Just nodded my head and bit my tongue...
Listen man I told you I was having a bad day. I broke 75 the next time I swear.

I have a buddy who always says "his driver has lost its pop". He says he used to knock it out there about 290, but now only hits it about 220-230.

I bet it was a carp unless he hit it in the ocean. Yuck.

I'm sure many of us know the guy that always says "you should have been here with me yesterday!" Ya....right. When I started playing as a kid in the early 70's I remember telling my brother he needed to play with me because "I was getting really good". Of course I shot something like 110 when I played with him. His advice to me then was "to let others brag about MY game". Great advice.
Something I've learned in the past 6 months. The only place I talk about my scores anymore is on THP. Now I can only embarrass myself at an outing. LOL

I shot a Hundy+ with JB, and I usually shoot in the 80's and high 70s on good days.
It's ok, nobody noticed that one....

A guy who used to play at my home course was obsessed with distance and spinning the short irons. Told us one day that he hit a shot so hard he could actually 'hear it spinning' as it flew and hit the green. Some hearing.

That pesky One-T had a hole in one on a par 4.

No, I'm serious, he really did.

I have a buddy I played in a foursome with late last year. He made a birdie on 18 that has just become the shot of the year. I mean the way he desrcibed it you'd think we were at Augusta and not Westchase....
hahahaa

We have freshwater 'murray cod' around the area I'm in and the course he said he did it at one of the holes goes over the arm of a lake that I know has cod in it because I have caught them in that lake while actually fishing. So the story is 'possible' just not very likely.
Actually got paired with a guy today with what looked like brand new clubs, bag, buggy, clothes everything. Claimed that he could drive the ball 300 yards. He promptly stepped up to the tee, had the ball so far back in his stance it was almost at his back foot and drove it straight into the ground, didn't even make it past the red tees. This pattern continued for the whole day. Would try to hit a PW from 100 yards out and land it 50 yards from the pin still.
Best part was when he was back in the carpark I watched him back over his own clubs which he had forgotten to put into the boot of his car. Only knocked them over, wouldn't have done any damage.

I know a guy who literally has a 'fishing' story. He says some time in the 70's he drove the ball and hit it straight into the water killing a cod which he took home and ate. I reckon it's just a story he tells but he swears it happened. Would have been pretty funny to see if it actually happened.

Sounds like his driver has lost a little more than the "pop" lol

The most interesting person I was ever paired with was the guy who shot an "87" but took about 8 mulligans total on the day. He also hit horrible slices into the woods on almost every hole and somehow magically evertime the ball ended up in the rough just off the fairway. He told me he usually shoots in the low 80s...

Man, I have golfed with almost every one of the guys mentioned in this thread...

Best one was a nephew of this guy who came along for his birthday. His round started with 2 tee shots out of bounds, then about 4 duffs that went no where, ping pong over the green a few times, and a 4 putt...for a "bogey"......he did that every hole, and would just say "I had a 5".....

I wonder how long that fish was floating before he got there?
This is my favorite, especially since he claims to have eaten it.

One guys I know is always hitting these great shots etc, but as yet I have never seen one on the course.

But the main thing is, when talking about distances he insists that he knows he can hit his hybrid 194 yards and his 5 iron 185 yards and so on. Problem is he normally duffs it! He has also just bought a top of the range GPS system because he is so accurate with his distances. He works out to the inch how far it is to the green and will then top it straight into the lake!
That's a classic move by most people that use range finders. Let's spend 10 minutes figuring out distances then just have to do it again 15-20 yards closer!

I have a buddy that takes his Fishing pole with him sometimes when he plays golf. He was playing golf south of Dallas at Lancaster Country View Golf Course, stopped in the Fairway on number 4, a par 5 to fish for a few minutes, and caught an 8lb Bass out of the pound on that hole! The dude is a great low handicap golfer, and I am sure he broke 80 that day. Pretty cool story, played golf, and caught a nice Bass on the same afternoon!
