Vacation to Mexico - Pro/Con of taking clubs?

Hey THP, I am planning a vacation to Puerto Vallarta with my lady and her sister & brother in law. The gents are planning on playing a round of golf (perhaps two) at the El Tigre course.

It costs $45 to rent clubs and they offer Taylor Made gear. What do you guys think about renting versus taking your bag? Obviously familiarity is preferred and I would imagine that I would be swinging familiar irons.

I've never traveled with my clubs and only have my carry bag, how tough is it to box em up, check em and bring em along? Is $45 worth not having to worry/deal with your own clubs?

depending on what airline you are flying it could cost you $40+ each way to take your clubs, so it will be probably cheaper for you to rent.

Now if you were playing a bunch of golf, then that could get expensive, but 1-2 rounds, I wouldnt even both bringing mine

As well as what the airline charges also consider that if you are renting a vehicle there you may have to pay more to have the room to carry your clubs. This happened to me on a trip to Tahoe. Clubs wouldn't fit in the tiny vehicle the rental company was offering.
Also, I would suggest buying a hard carrying case for your bag. Boxing them up might not be enough to make it through baggage without an "accident".
