I try to look at each hole as a new challenge. Yeah I am aware what my score is thanks to Golfshot on the phone but it does not matter to me. I try to make a challenge out of each hole and have 18 battles each round. When I feel myself getting the shakes or nervous about my score I step away from the ball and focus on each individual shot and try to do the very best I can in that moment.
When I really work on this is when I am having a bad round or a group or partner that is really annoying me while playing my round. It works the same as when I am playing bad as to when I am doing really well. I was all over the course last week and shot an 89 with 4 birdies thanks to this way of thinking. While I did not have the lowest score the birdies saved me in the skins game we were playing. |

It's a lot easier to be honest when you shoot in the 70's and low 80's on a regular basis. |

I care about my score, but I tell my brain to not care about my final score going into 16,17,18. I just tell myself I have choked far too many times before to choke again and let that crap happen again. I know how rattled I am going to be after the round if I choke so I keep my cool and just play my game.
It just comes with experience. |

I have difficulty not counting my score. My curiosity almost always gets the best of me, and I find myself adding scores every few holes. To counteract this fact, I give myself a target score for every three holes. By breaking the round into smaller segments, it has helped my concentration. No matter how I play, I get a fresh start every three holes. This has helped me stay focused at the end of good rounds.

I dont really look at my scores during my round. I will look at my front 9 score to see what I need to do on the back, but thats about it. it keeps me from over thinking. |

One shot at a time! Used to always allow one bad shot or one bad hole ruin my round. Now I just let it go because there's nothing that can be done with it. Shot is over and the the most important shot is the one your standing over at the moment. Not the one that got you there or the one you'll have to make after wards.
Also, since i read it in an earlier post... setting a 3 hole goal as well. For me it's always been one bogey for every two pars... ie: par-par bogey. That pattern equates to +3/+3=+6 and sub 80 any course, except those VERY rare par 73's. |
