Default The gap between.
sorry I looked for this but couldn't find a thread about everyone's usual gap between their driver and 3W.

Is the gap large enough for you to need a driver if your 3W is solid?

Do you have a favorite long iron/hybrid that you can always count on?

I "think" my drives go 240ish-250? I'm not 100% sure on my 3W distance yet but I'll say the gap is about 15-20ish yds. Does that sound right?

I know for a fact that my Adams A7-3h is 210yds max and super consistent with direction. I tend to lean on that club the most but I'll lose about 30+ yds off the tee box.

Obviously everyone is different but I think you are fairly close. I have hit some solid drives lately in measurable conditions and am between 250-260 total yards on well struck drives. I can easily get 230 out of my 3 wood.

With that said, I am VERY close to pulling the driver out for good. I hit it great half a round and then wayward the other half. I am learning more and more about course management and keeping the ball in play. Played irons only for 9 holes on Tuesday and shot 42 with a triple....that says something IMO.

Thanks mcook...So 20-30yds is about right from 3W to Driver?

Guys/Gals please know that I'm not looking for your distances (I don't want this to be one of THOSE threads) I'm just more curious about the gap.

No problem - yes, I see about a 30 yard gap max. Now the internet golfers that hit it 310 off the tee may have a larger gap than I do.

hmm haven't really thought about this but I would say on my good days its a gap of 20 to 30 yards.

At first I thought it was 3I/3H(I was about to put 40-50 yards! haha)

do you gents have a favorite club off the tee that you know where it'll land every time?

Ehhh...I would not go quite that far. I used to be a big slicer now a bad tee shot is pulled dead left (not a hook, just a pull) and I still do that occasionally with the 3W and 3H. This is a very recent revelation, but I can put the 3i down the fairway anywhere from 190-210 consistently.

I feel that I need my driver. I feel that the accuracy is close to the same with either club and I might as well be a little farther down the fairway and in some instances, I could not have reached a place I was going for with a 3 wood (elevated fairway from the back tees at my old home course).

When I am not hitting my driver well, I pull out my TaylorMade RescueMid 3H. It's my go to club off the tee, and I can hit it down the pipe about 210-215. I just wish I wasnt so stubborn in trying to conquer my driver on days when it isnt in the cards for me.

My gap, when hitting each club well, is about 30-40 yards.

My gap when hitting each well is anywhere around 50 yards. For what it's worth, I'm not a long hitter with the driver either.
Solid drives for me are in the 250 - 275 range. 3w range is about 200 - 225.

It's around 20-30 yards. If I'm spraying the driver, I know I can tee off with the 3w and keep it in the fairway.

Right now I do not have any woods in my bag, just a Mashie M4 so my gap is about 50-75 yards (depending on how well I hit the Mashie..lol) I am planning on get a 3W and maybe a 5W, thank you for asking this question as it is a question I had as well.

I'm going to say my gap between 9.5 driver and 13 3w is somewhere between 10-20 yds. Driver consistency has started to plummet as I am somehow developing a slice

I don't view it as a gap. They are clubs with different functions. More important is the gap between the 3W and the next club below it. Sure I use the 3W off the tee on some holes, but I don't worry about how that differs from my driver, only about whether it's right for that specific tee shot. I also use both of my hybrids and sometimes my 5I for tee shots. Club spacing only really matters to me when it comes to making approach shots.

In the case he referenced in his original post, it is about a gap because he is wondering on average how many yards he would lose by not having a driver in the bag. If on average that is say 25 yards but you are in the FW 80% with a 3W vs 50% with a driver you need to determine if that gap or difference is worth the dispersion when the length of the hole would call for a driver from a distance perspective.
