Default Driver, long..mid..short irons, short game or putting
After each round I think about where I lost the majority of my shots. Did I hit errant drives or loose iron shots. Was my short game off or did I putt badly. I''ve become pretty good at self analysis of my round.
Do you know where you loose most of your shots? If so what are you doing to correct it? Do you build other areas of the game to compensate for the weaker area or do you work on the weak link?
I really try to work on my putting ever chance I get becasue I feel that makes up for my poor proximity to the hole. But the more I think about it, I should be working on the short game and short iron game. If I get it closer I'll score better. scoring is the name of the game, RIGHT?!

Driver every time. I can usually get away with it if the rest of my game is off. Not the driver though. When I keep the driver in the fairway I go low. I could practice more with it, but just don't get to the range as much as I should.

I can always tell what hurt my game. I do put a lot of work into putting too. I try to work on my weak link, but still practice the other aspects of my game. Putting is what always hurts my game. I'm a decent putter, but miss a lot of birdie putts that I should be making. My scores have been dropping since i have been focusing on putting.

I had a 9 hole play lesson with my coach the other day. I hit the ball good but after analyzing the round, we concluded my chipping and putting easily cost me 5-6 strokes (I shot a 42). I bet I chipped for 3 hours yesterday. I need to work even more on my putting.

Analysis of a round right afterwards is very enlightening to me. When I do it, I can easily see what I need to work on most. I need to do it more often!

Tadashi, looking at your HI you're already a very good golfer. At your level, and as you pointed out, it's all about the short game for you. For me it's all about the long game. My pro told me my short game is at scratch...my long game...not so much. lol That's where my game needs the most work.

When I get off the tee, I play well so the driver is very important for me. It sets the tone for my round.

My weakness is pretty much always the same, irons and hybrids. My GIRs are not very good, but my ups and downs are pretty good. I work on the wedges all the way to the hybrids everytime I hit the practice tees. It will take me over an hour, usually more like an hour and a half to hit a medium sized bucket of balls (about 75/80 balls) and I will usually hit about 8-10 drivers during that time, then I spend about an hour on my chipping and putting. I have a tendency to miss my approach shots left, so I always get out the alignment sticks and work on hitting the ball on line, it really does seem to be improving here lately.

I've always been strongest with irons and weakest with my driver. Often I'll tee off with my 3i knowing it will go straight for at least 200. I'd rather lose the 30-50 than risk going into the woods or rough.

My weakness has always been in the short game and putting. I've worked pretty hard this season on both areas with my PGA teacher. For me, missing a few fairways is no big deal so I worry less about that. I have a good iron game and I'm fairly good with hybrids, so I can recover from a missed fairway. Short game and putting is where good scores come from. That is the one thing us hackers have in common with the pro's. Become a good wedge player and a good putter, and the battle will nearly be won.

Every round it's something different. Sometimes every hole. Either the driver isn't working, approaches are off, chipping is bad or just terrible putting. Hard to get all things working at the same time for 18 holes, that's why my handicap is 16.

Driver every single time. Getting pretty good at low punches under tree limbs though.

It's none of that for me. When I avoid the 1-2 blow up holes where everything goes wrong I shoot a good score.

There's always something else to work on for me. Traditionally my putting and chipping are the best part of my game and I suck with the irons, but lately thats all turned around and the putting/chipping needs work. I try to look back after each round, it can be pretty telling.

Now that I'm hitting my new driver straight, it's my short game - chipping and putting - that's hurting me. I reckon I'm easily losing a shot per hole at the moment and probably more. Need to do some work on chipping within 50 feet.

My driver hurt me yesterday, I couldn't hit it straight and if I had just bagged it on 2 holes I would haven't had to add the 3 penalty shots and could have broke 40 maybe.

Usually it is Putting for me that adds strokes to the score.

Iron game. I miss too many GIR from perfect spots in the fairway after great drives. I have supreme confidence in my driver and putter and a pretty good short game, but I average 4 GIR per round, sometimes as low as 1 or even 0 per round. My high has been 9 GIR in a single round in recent years. If I hit GIR during a round I score well enough to be satisfied, but I'm usually left scrambling far too often. Push, pull, fat, thin... just can't get my iron swing dailed in enough.
