Well, sorry I havent updated, but I've been really busy and out of town. I was in a tournament about a week ago and going to another one this morning in like 5 minutes. It is 2 days 18 holes eaach and these count as tryouts for my team. It is a long course, but open with wide fairways so I can score here. Wish me luck and I'll update this when I finish and get back to my house.

Well, today I shot an 85 on a par 71. I would be happy, but on two holes I shot a 9 and a 7, both par 4s. One was over water, and it messed with my head, and the other I hit a fence and had to take an unplayable. My worst part of my game was my lag putting. My driving, irons, chipping, and short putts were decent, but I faced a ton of 30+ foot putts, because of my unusual number of girs that I hit. My goal was to break 90 and I did that so I'm happy, and my goal for tomorrow is to break 85, and maybe 80, as I know I can now. I have a 7:50 tee time, so I'm going to get ready for it.

Default Junior Lefty's High School Golf Career
Hi everybody on THP, and this is where I will be posting scores and any progress that I make in my journey for high school golf in August. First of all, I'm sorry I haven't been very active on the forums recently, but a lot of stuff is going on. I haven't lost time to play golf, but THP has taken a backseat and it shouldn't have.

Well, introductions aside, my goal this summer is to consistently shoot 40-45 on nine holes, and 80-85 on 18 holes. (Yes I know my math is off ) To start it off, I'm finally getting new irons instead of the clone ones that I have now, a set of adams a7s to be exact. Being left handed wasn't easy, but I hit a couple sets that they had, and they didn't have the a7's but they did have the a7os's. I had already researched the a7s and was interested and the a7os were great. The store is getting a set of a7s in today and I'll hit them before I decide, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting the a7s. They fit me and I was standard everything, lucky me I guess.

Now on to my golf game. Tryouts for high school are August 1-2. The coach takes a tournament score that we are all playing in, 2 days 18 holes each, and factors in some other things and decides who makes the team. Last year there were 9 on the team, and 8 are coming back this year, so I'm not competing against anyone but myself. I'm playing with the coach next week so he can get to know me and my game. I have broken 40 once in my life, and that was with a 38, but now I'm playing a little below bogey golf, and I want to get a handicap, and bring it to single digits this year.

If you read this, thanks, if not, fine. I'll let you know how I like my new irons this afternoon, but I probably wont play a round with them until tomorrow.

Good luck with the tryouts and whatnot. I'll be checking back to follow your progress. Are you going to be having a practice routine that you are doing this summer? Any competitions this summer to get used to tournament conditions?

Not a specific practice routine no. I'm trying to play at least 5 or 6 times a week, because some days in july i wont get to play a lot. I'm playing in two or three tournaments not counting the one that is the tryouts, so I hope I'll be ready.

I hope you play well and are able to make the team. In my high school years (78-80) my 87 scoring average was not enough to make it, but it was worth every minute of effort I put into it. Your THP friends will for sure be cheering for you!

Sorry, but my internet went down yesterday, and I couldn't tell you about my new irons! They are adams a7s, and they just came into the store and I brought them home yesterday. I only hit birdieballs, which are a great product by the way, but I could tell how great they feel and straight they fly. I'm playing nine holes with my friend today, but we have to start late because theyre calling for a heat record in our area haha. Not good golf weather, but I don't care. I'll be hitting my a7s, and hopefully shooting a 41. It is a par 35 nine holes, so I'm hoping to only shoot 6 over. I usually shoot 9 over, but I've been hitting the ball well lately, and my new irons might help!

Oh and I'll get some pictures of my irons! They might be dirty after today, but I'll make sure to clean them first

I know you have all been waiting for this...... PICTURES haha I just took this opportunity to do a full WITB, but only the irons are new

This is my driver, and my pinemeadow woods. I have hit other woods, and could exchange these, but I love these woods and would not give them up. They feel great.

Look how sexy these irons are...

and last but not least my trusty 56* cleveland cg14

Very Cool. Any chance to compare it to the Nike Method Core? Try it the next time you have the chance, you might like what you feel...

Sounds like you know the first area of your game to really hone in on, short game. I'm not sure if your short game is 10 yards and closer or the infamous 10-90 yards out. I don't work on my 10 yards and in as much as I should, but I do spend 1/3 to 1/2 of a large bucket of ball hitting nothing but pitch shots with my wedges. It has really helped me with the 40-60 yard gap, which was always my toughest.

I have been playing for a long time and I didn't start scoring well until I fell out of love with hitting the driver and started practicing more wedges, chips, sand shots and putting much, much more often than I hit full swing shots. You can only become so good with the long game anyway but the short game you can have a lot more control over. Good luck with your effort.

Yep, it is that 40-60 yard mostly, but I can't hit low running chips either. I can hit high chips and pitches all the time, but I just can't seem to master that low pitch, even with my pitching wedge. The most success I've had is using an 8 iron from close to the green and start it running as soon as it hits the green. I'm probably playing with the high school coach today and I'll let you know how it goes.

Those are great looking irons and they should serve you well. Keep working on the short game and putting. Don't get caught up in the distance wars. Just work on hitting fairways and greens.
