I played the Valey Course. I could not get off the tee, so shot 90. The course was in decent shape, nice layout. It was worth (kind of...) the 80 I paid, but not the 175 they charge (or more) in season. Not a course a need to play again.

I played the Stadium Course, Valley, Sawgrass CC and the King and Bear at the World Golf Hall of Fame in March. King and Bear is worth the trip. I enjoyed the Valley course...Sawgrass CC has a TON of water. My favorite was still the Stadium course, but I really enjoyed the King and Bear as well. Really can't go wrong with any of them. You'll enjoy the Valley course.

Default Going to Jacksonville, Staying at Marriott Sawgrass
So which course should I play in the area? I've already played The Stadium Course, so I am looking for something else. Has anyone played the Valley Course? How about the Sawgrass Country Club or Ponte Vedre Country Club?

Can't go wrong with any of those. Many locals prefer the Valley Course (I suppose it has a more "traditional" feel to it). Sawgrass CC was, of course, the original home of the PLAYERS before the Stadium was built.

Ponte Vedra CC - do you mean the one inside Sawgrass (formerly Oak Bridge CC)? If so, that one is a nice Palmer/Seay design, short, mostly narrow, some water in play. Par 70, I think.

Ponte Vedra Inn & Club is on the ocean side and is a nice private/resort track if you can get on it.

The next closest public courses to Sawgrass would be:

Windsor Park - the nicest public course in the area, I guess, will run you around $35 most days. Decent shape, but not stellar. Decent value for the money and a nice design.

Deercreek CC is private and a few more minutes away but can be had on Golfnow for $40 sometimes and is a nice layout in good condition.

Selva Marina CC is up the beach a bit and is semi-private. Queen's Harbor is across the intracoastal from there and is also semi-private and full of marsh and lost ball potential but is a good track. Neither of them are in great shape right now.

For that matter, I'm not sure many courses outside of the high end are doing great right now around here - hot, hardly any rain for months, lots of smoke from nearby forest fires... even the good clubs are struggling to keep the tees and rough and greens looking perfect.

When are you planning to be up here?

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will be doing some serious research tonight. I called the golf shop last week and they said some of the courses will be under aerification now/next week, so that is going to go into my final decision making process. I am looking to play Monday or Tuesday, probably around 10.

I made a tee-time at the Valley course. The greens are supposed to be 70% back by the time I play next Tuesday. I hope so!

A favorite local course of mine is Bent Creek. It'll be on the other side of Jacksonville if you're staying in Ponte Vedra, but I would think it's worth it. Hyde Park has been in great shape the last two times I played there. Have fun and enjoy yourself!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it but it might be too long a drive since I need to be back at a certain time to get the kids from the camp.
