Default THP Tournament for greatness (Ideas thread)
So I just had a thought. I have been around the community for two months now and it amazes me how many people root for each other and how well everyone gets along and so forth. Well I thought well why not have a spring tournament amongst the THP players.

Now I know we can't play each other in real life but why not have some fun with this? I was posting this as an idea thread and JB or TC or anyone can really just close this or take the lead on it if they choose. For my idea I was thinking...

You have to be able to play golf(and be honest it is for free anyway)
We could do either 9/18 hole with match play but with strokes involved
A field of however many sign up(64?)

And how posting would work is the admin of the thread puts for example "1:45pm post for "person1" and "person2"
(then the people would PM the scores and then posted)

Now I know people can easily just shoot out of their minds somehow but seriously what does that gain? So why lie about a score you would never shoot? I would like to think that some people on here would love this idea, if so voice your opinion to make it better.

I know this is a rough sketch maybe a very rough sketch but I figured we could try doing this in some how. Any ideas or input would be wonderful.

I like the idea, but the only thing concerning me is the difficulty of courses each person plays. All matches are played on the same course to determine a winner. A match on two different courses could be severely lopsided.

Downhill lie? With one knee on the ground? Did you hit the pin and then sink the albatross putt?

Better not get rid of those blades.

Edit: or quit going to that range

I like the idea. We could get a rough calculation of difficulty and apply the appropriate handicap.

I do that standing only on my left foot. You better step your game up!

I like the idea. Golf is a game of integrity. If someone choose to lie or cheat, karma will take care of that person.

Play net using course handicaps?

Great idea...would you rank the players 1-64? Full hdcp or a percentage?

But we can....THP Outings and even more so THP Outing 2012 is an actual competition.

Obviously if people would like to do something like this, they can do so. They might have a lot of fun with it.
Problems arise with yardages, slopes, etc..., but I am sure they can be worked out.

THP is a community for all skill levels, so we think this should be something that people do on their own rather than an official THP thing though. Just my thoughts anyway.

I like the idea of this. I think yardages and course difficulty can be worked out to a satisfactory degree. Course rating and slope should help quite a bit. Yardages can be controlled by the tee each person plays. I'm not saying we all play the same yardages, but maybe take the old 5 iron x 36 formula to determine a person's tee.

Are we handicapping it? What about those of us who don't have an official handicap, how are we calculating that?

Well I'm glad some people are enjoying the idea. I mean yeah sure it's not the best thing ever but as someone else said it'll hold us over till the real thing. And plus sometimes things arise and might be able to go and so forward. I just figured we could give this a try if enough people are interested.

And about courses/tees/handicaps...

I believe that we can all see that lying about your score will get you nothing but I do believe if we do this a handicap will be needed(for those who don't have one, get one on the Internet use websites to help-can post links if needed).

Like I said everyone it's a rough sketch but I figured it's something to pass time by with and have fun with

How about getting 64 players based on time zones. Or a north-south thing.
