Does anyone else absolutely hate waiting while golfing. I know it comes with the sport sometimes, but I played the slowest 9 holes of my life the other day and just could not find a rhythm the entire 9 holes. I didn't enjoy round because we were constantly waiting. Does this bother anyone else? Do you think it causes your golf game trouble when you have to wait between shots?

Waiting combined with a bad golf game is the worst. I was playing the other day and then got caught behind a group of 4 women that would not let me and another buddy pass. We got to hole 14 and just stalled. Each shot we were waiting for 5-10 minutes. I was so angry and pissed off we walked into the clubhouse and I couldn't talk to anyone and it just ruined the next 2-3 hours of my day.

I agree with everyone. Waiting between shots just blows. I have never been diagnosed ADHD, but I would bet I have it. I can't stand still so it really frustrates me to wait. Constantly have a million things going on in my head. I'm 36 years old with the energy of a 16 year old. I am a pretty hyper guy. I hate waiting on anything I'm so impatient!

I agree these are all good things to do. Something about me likes to keep a rhythm though and play each hole in succession. I really have this idea I lack the flow when I go back and play the hole again. I actually don't even like to wait around and putt on the green while the people next hole are just teeing off. Just a weird thought I have to myself. This is probably one of the things that contributes to my slow play anger.

I don't like skipping holes, but I'd rather skip one than spend an extra 2 hours on the course waiting behind a slow group.

If there is no one behind me, I'll often play 2 or 3 balls per hole just to slow my pace down and get some practice in or sit under a tree and have a granola bar for a few minutes to let them get ahead.

I also hate slow play. There are so many factors that contribute to slow play. A couple of the worst are: The first is sending groups out in 8 minute intervals. Come on, make it at least every 10-12 minutes! The second is people mimicking the pros on pre-shot routines with 5 or more practice swings! The pros are doing it for their second or third shots, the ams are doing on their 5,6 or 7th shots!!!! And, OMG, taking everything including the wind into account when putting! Then, counting your strokes ON THE GREEN instead of the next tee!

Hit the damn ball. Play ready golf. It's NOT life or death! You're NOT playing for tens of thousands of dollars! If you are playing for this kind of money, GET OFF MY MUNY!

This is my approach also when playing alone. Generally, waiting is only intolerable when I'm placed with a random group where one or more of the others is constantly harping and complaining about the pace...or making endless disparaging remarks about the folks in front of us.

I can't stand slow rounds. I have thought about not playing on the weekends this time of year due to this. I don't mind one slow group in front of me, but when the next 5 groups are like this, it is just frustrating. It just ruins my round!

I don't mind slow rounds too much if I'm playing with friends and family, so long as it's within reason. As far as sitting around waiting, it typically leads to more drinking while sitting idle, which doesn't do anything for my golf game, but does wonders to pass the time. Besides, I usually just enjoy that I am out there on a beautiful golf course, i'll sit back and soak it all in.

What's been driving me lately is log jams on the first tee.
I play in two different leagues each week that always use a shotgun start. Doubling up foursomes on each hole (1a,1b,2a,2b...) we usually Take up around 13-15 holes at the start. Some courses will try and get the walk-ons to play in the shotgun too, filling out the rest of the holes. That makes sense and it works (except for the occasional non-member writing his name down on the closet to the pin sign. haha)

However last week my group started on the third hole. That means after we played the 18th hole we needed to go back and play holes 1&2 to finish the round. We rounded the corner and found EIGHT FOURSOMES IN LINE waiting to tee off on the first tee!!! Granted 3 of the groups were part of our shotgun and just needed to play the first & second hole as well to finish. My foursome ended up eating a rather nice lunch before we teed off and finished the round. But by then, Hands were greasy and I was tired and groggy (stupid patty melt), and I had simply lost all feel and momentum in my swing. This has been happening more and more with our league.

I understand a Golf Courses need to make money and that means getting as many tee times as possible and getting as many people playing. But we were there first (we changed out starting times this year from 7:30 am to 6:30 am to appease some of the courses) and we deserve the right to finish the round of golf we play for.

The only thing I've ever been told to appease us during the log jam was that they didn't expect us so soon and that they were expecting us to avg a 5 hour round. (thereby giving them more time to get a few more people off the first tee)I've heard that a few times from the warden/marshall/club pro, and the person he's speaking too always walks away happy thinking "Well i've done a good job and played quickly the way you're supposed to play." But you should strive for a 4 hour round, management shuold find ways to encourage you to play faster, not Penalize you if you do play quickly.

When things get really backed up or there is just a super slow group ahead, then it's irritating. By and large, most of the time the slower groups let my friends and I play through if there is an open hole ahead.
What really bothers me the most about slow play is when the people behind me are breathing down my neck and hitting into me even though things are backed up and I'm waiting on the group ahead of me with nowhere to go.

I hate slow play but if I know it ahead of time I mentally prepare. If it occurs with my group it bugs me even more. I'm the slowest of my friends and we still can get 18 in at a 3hr pace.

I hate slow play and waiting, but what can you do. Just from my own experience, since I usually go as a single, I've yet to play with anyone that's probably less than maybe a 15 handicap so it takes a while when everyone's going left and right on you.

Personally, the way I see it is slow golf is better than no golf at all so I stopped letting it bug me. It does annoy me that they're actually all waiting on me for par 5s since I can reach and they can't.

Either way, the worst part for me is my bad back. I warm up for the round and during the wait, it sometimes does get stiff. It's a nuissance, but oh well.

I too hate being held up on every shot, but I try to make the best of it. I always say a long day on the golf course is better than a short day at work, or, it could be worse, I could be at work right now. What bothers me more is when I get stuck with someone that plays slow, and then I feel like I am being pushed by the group behind me, and then I rush through my routines. That is when I play the worst.

I can deal with a moderately slow round as I'll just alter my pace. Very slow = annoyed Hawk = very little chance for good golf.

yeah this is the worst. just like traffic on the highway, peaking around my car from the shoulder really lets you know that YOU'RE IN FREAKIN RUSH HOUR and yes there are HUNDREDS of cars in front of mine!

I have a buddy who is a RIDICULOUSLY slow player, he takes like 7 practice swings per shot. I told him before that we had to speed it up and he was unaware. I couldn't believe he didn't understand he was the reason our group was behind.

I try and only play once or twice a year with him now.

I hate waiting, 5.5 hour rounds are the reason I joined a private club, just eats up way too much of the day
