I have a buddy who is a RIDICULOUSLY slow player, he takes like 7 practice swings per shot. I told him before that we had to speed it up and he was unaware. I couldn't believe he didn't understand he was the reason our group was behind. |

I can deal with a moderately slow round as I'll just alter my pace. Very slow = annoyed Hawk = very little chance for good golf. I dont mind playing a bit slower but playing at a good tempo and then having to wait sporatically really throws me off. |

As a goalie, I liken slow play to being in a game and seeing very few shots. It makes it much harder to actually maintain your focus and perform at a high level.
I prefer to not wait a lot for slow people in front of me, but I think that it can help your mental game, as it makes it much easier to focus when playing a 4 hour round if you can focus while playing a 5.5 hour round. |

Not a big fan of slow play, but it's inevitable when people emulate the pros on TV (or it's tourist season)....There's slow play and then there's SLOW PLAY....Anything over 4 1/2 hours should be totally unacceptable........2 years ago at the World Am in Myrtle Beach was the worst...Anyone who has been there knows that 5 1/2 hour rounds are the norm.....On Day 4 (85 players/mostly 3 somes) it was SLOW!!!!!!....3 1/2 hours to play the first 9 holes....Crazy slow...By our 6th hole there were 3 groups on every tee waiting....Ranger said one group was the problem and have been warned.....On my 9th hole we were the 4th group waiting on the tee.....So I went ahead to see the problem and to kill some time.....Found the problem group about 6 holes ahead...There were 4 empty holes in front of them....After numerous warnings, the 3 some was removed from the course...We sped up to 2 1/2 hours for the next 9 holes (Total 6 hours)...And it would have been longer but about 15 guys left in the middle of the round to make flights home...Unbelievable....This is why I don't play the WorldAm anymore....

Slow play is the cancer of golf. It seems to get worse all the time. Way too many people today live in a me me me world and could care less about the other people around them. When course management refuses to get involved (as they should) the problem just grows bigger. My course is VERY proactive in this area, and we have little problem right now with slow play.
With times being tough, too many course's are afraid that they will piss someone off by telling them to pick up the pace or yield to those behind them, but my course is not one of them. |

I get out the phone and check scores or read the news or whatever, what can you do? I got threatened last weekend when I was out by a guy making a crack something like 'being hit by a ball is better than being hit by a bullet' after asking the guy behind us to please not hit into us again, very politely I thought, because the people ahead were ridiculously slow not us. I am not going to say anything to anyone on the golf course any more, if I have time I play on if not I will just go to the clubhouse and try and get a discount for next time or a refund if possible.
